Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

This is the weekend when our corner of the world divides into people who are ready for end-of-year festivities, trying (and failing) not to look smug, and … the rest of us. We send you strength, and we welcome you into our beautiful Holiday Shop, which is loaded up with gifts for all.

If MDK is an important part of your knitting life, please help keep us going by shopping with us. We love what we do, and we appreciate your support more than we can say.

Easiest ways to show the love: subscribe to the MDK Field Guides for 2024—so many benefits, and special holiday pricing that ends on Dec. 31! And, of course, that faithful friend of the last-minute shopper, the beloved MDK Gift Card

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Color, proportion, and the unexpected: a blast of inspiration for styling our handknits from Claudia B. Manley.

We went on a day trip with Jeni Hankins, to gaze upon splendid textiles and ponder the old tussle between fine art and the fabric of our lives.

The very definition of breaking news: Ann has a new tote bag, and it has shattered her previous notions of what a tote bag can do for one’s overall amazingness.

Blue hands, full hearts, can’t lose: a weekend workshop we won’t soon forget.

If this post doesn’t make you want to bake a batch of cookies, are you OK?

A jam-packed Knit to This from DG. Remember to enter our giveaway by 11:59 p.m. Sunday night for a chance to win a copy of Ann’s novel of Nashville

As ever, we thank you all for supporting MDK through thick and thin. Every morning, we bring the best writers, teachers, and knitting to you, free of charge. This is only possible because of your purchases from the MDK Shop—thank you!

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

Knitter Hats Are Back!

When we saw that a certain haute couture house was selling a swanky interpretation of the classic ball cap, we were inspired to create one for knitters. We thought you’d like them, but hoo boy—you loved them! We got in a fresh batch just in time for the holidays. Get ’em while we’ve got ’em, right here.

Supreme Stocking Stuffer

Paging MacGyver: everybody needs an emergency knitting needle now and then! We still have a few of those cute MDK Pencil Bundles, the perfect order add-on.

2024: A Year for Journaling Joy

With a brand-new year cruising into view, we’re thrilled to recommend the online course that made keeping a journal a joyful mainstay of our lives: Felicity Ford’s self-paced bullet journaling course. Use MDK’s affiliate link and this code: MODERNDAILYKNITSONIK— to enroll for 10 percent off! (Thanks, Felix!)

It’s the Little Things

All the notions and tools to make knitting even more fun than it already is.

To Give and Keep

The bags we love. A deep dive of our collection shows you all eight options.

Our Tools Department will set you up with the best gizmos and gadgets and helpful little things.

Become one with watercolor! We fell in love with watercolor painting this year—so much that we have not one but two sets of watercolors for you in our MDK Shop: a very simple set and a very fine set. And a beautiful book teaches mindful painting.

MDK Gift Card. Our gift card sets up the intoxicating, wide-open horizon of shopping in the MDK Shop—for yarn and all the other amazing things we have on offer.

Delight the New Knitter

This is the time of year when we hear from folks who are shopping for the new knitters in their lives. What would a new knitter like?

We do have opinions—well-informed, road-tested opinions—about what new knitters need and want as they embark on the grand adventure:

Skill Set Box of Joy. Our all-in-one dream box has everything a new knitter needs to get started: perfect yarn, excellent tools, and our concise book, Skill Set: Beginning Knitting.

Field Guide Collection. Our ultimate rabbit hole of inspiration. A new knitter is fascinated by patterns—so many possibilities!

And (truly) (it seems like a big gift but it’s the best gift) . . . Tulip Interchangeable Needle Set.

Support What You Love

The Juiciest Subscription

This is the time of year when we ask you to support all the free daily fun at MDK—including everybody’s favorite pajama read, Snippets—by subscribing to the three MDK Field Guides we will publish in 2024.

Subscribers are the wind beneath MDK’s wings, and to show our gratitude, we’ve added more benefits for 2024 subscribers. And our special holiday shop subscription price makes this an easy decision. Subscribe here. And thank you.

Artisanal (Delicious) Treats

To give or (really) to keep for yourself. A bundle of chocolate from our favorite Nashville chocolate maker, Olive and Sinclair. The brand-new 2024 MDK Calendar Tea Towel picturing knitters doing their thing. And the best peanut butter, like, ever.

  • I love the knitter’s hat.❤️❤️❤️ But $50 US plus another $35 to ship it to Canada!!
    Is there any other way?

    • I love it too and I understand what you are saying. I don’t have unlimited funds either. I do have a few thoughts to share–I love MDK. The newsletters, snippets, online classes, videos, tutorials, links to fun things. And I am not very tech savvy, so I know there is more I am not even aware of. Every time I have ordered, the customer service is the best. If you subscribe to Field Guides you get 10% off all year. There is free shipping if you order a certain amount, so I save up my list. Not sure if that applies to Canada. I think about how sad I would be if they were not there for us with all the support they give. I have all kinds of things I tell myself to justify shopping there, I don’t wear makeup, go to malls (there are none in remote Eastern Oregon where I live), don’t hang out in the bars or go out for fancy dinners. Anyway I am a big fan and when I order I feel like I am rewarding myself and it feels so good.

      • Hi, Lora – unfortunately, the Field Guide subscription is not available to international customers. We’ve yet to crack the shipping issue that would basically double the cost of a subscription. Our standard free shipping minimums don’t apply to international orders, either, for similar reasons. It’s just very very expensive to ship across borders!

    • Hi, Ruth! The hat is an oddity in that its price puts it in the more expensive international shipping tier, regardless of its light weight. If you order the hat SOLO, we’ll adjust the shipping and refund the difference (I think it’s still gonna be in the mid 20s, though). Thanks!

  • Tell DG that I want the red hat.

    • DG is about to block you permanently.

    • ha ha ha ha!!!

  • I just ordered my hat!!!! Can’t wait to wear it while knitting my Old Friend Pullover in the special black Atlas yarn (DG and I agree on how awesome a black sweater is)!

  • Hi, I thbink your site might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your website in Chrome, it lookjs fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping.
I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that,
    fantastic blog!

  • Than goodness for snippets! For some reason I have been unable to open MDK’s daily posts all week. Fortunately along comes Snippets on Saturday and I can catch up on the entire week!
