Please note the following corrections to MDK patterns, listed in numerical order by Field Guide. All these corrections are to the print edition, and may have already been corrected in the PDF version of each Field Guide.

We hate it when this happens! Our apologies for these and any potential misery they may have caused you.

Field Guide No. 1: Stripes

Station Wagon Blanket by Mary Jane Mucklestone

In Block 2 of the blanket, make the following changes:
Page 28, column 2, line 1: Add asterisk before “With E.”
Page 28, column 2, line 3: Delete asterisk before “With B.”
Page 28: Delete line 11, “With E, knit 16 rows (8 ridges).”

Field Guide No. 2: Fair Isle

Hadley Pullover by Véronik Avery
Page 13: The charts for the yoke and sleeve show purl stitches at certain points. To replicate the photography sample exactly, the purl stitches should be worked one row above where they are indicated on the charts. Change the charts as follows: make a purl mark in the square above the square where a purl stitch is shown. The squares with the original purl stitches should be worked as knit stitches.

Page 13: For the yoke chart, use this chart for Rounds 24-39. The double decrease in Round 24 is different from what appears in Field Guide No. 2. Note here that the symbol / represents a knit 2 together stitch. (The symbol is different in the Field Guide, but the stitch is k2tog.)

 

Field Guide No. 3: Wild Yarns

Easel Sweater by Sue McCain
Page 30, in the section SHAPE SHOULDERS AND NECK. The first line of instructions should read as follows, with the correction in bold:

— BO 5 (6, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7) sts, k13 (15, 14, 15, 15, 17, 17, 17) (including st on right needle after BO)

 

Field Guide No. 5: Sequences

Page 14: in the Corrugated Shawl Table, Sequence 2 Row Repeat should be 2.

Page 14: in the Corrugated Shawl Table, Sequence 10 should read k5, p2, k1.

GAUGE
24.5 sts and 33.5 rows = 4″ (10 cm) over St st using 1 strand each of A and B held together

Page 36, in the first column, on the third line it should read:
” – Using D in place of A, rep Rows 2–23 five more times, then rep Rows 2–22 once more.”

Field Guide No. 7: Ease

Page 27, in the section SECOND B STRIPE. The first line of instructions should read as follows, with the correction in bold:
—Row 1 (WS): With B, purl to last 14 sts, etc.

Page 28, the contrast color (C, D, or E) should be joined at right edge on WS row for Contrast Blocks 1, 2, and 3, respectively

Sail-Away Shawl by Julia Farwell-Clay
On page 15, under Section 1, the 6th paragraph should read “Rep Rows 1 and 2 eight more times—54 sts.” The last line in the last paragraph of Section 1 (just above “Scarf Only”) should read “… ridges in A; 6 garter ridges in B—384 sts.”

On page 16, under Shawl Only, the first paragraph should read “Continuing in B, work Rows 1 and 2 twice—394 sts.

 

Field Guide No. 8: Merry Making

Page 20, under Cable Pattern, Row 5 should be written as follows:

K1-tbl, k1, p1, k1, *p2, 1/2/1 RPT; repeat from * to last 3 sts, p1, k1, k1-tbl.

Appleseed Mitts by Thea Colman

Page 14, column 2, the second paragraph should read as follows: “If using a different needle size of an alternate yarn, the Cable Pattern should be worked on a needle two sizes larger than the size used for St st. …”

Page 16, under All Sizes, should be written as follows:
“Knit to second thumb marker, place next last 11 (11, 13) sts workedon waste yarn (removing markers), …”

 

Field Guide No. 9: Revolution

Calligraphy Cardigan by Norah Gaughan

Page 10, column 2, under “Yoke,” the last line should read:

Purl one row; change to st st.

Page 14, column 2, the last abbreviation should read:

4/3 RPC (4 over 3 Right Purl Cross): Slip the next 3 stitches to cn and hold at back of work, k4, p3 from cn.

Page 12, column 1, under “Materials,” the number of balls of Big Wool by Rowan should be: 9 (10, 11, 11) (12, 12, 13) (14, 15, 15, 16)

Page 17, column 1, under “Right Front Band,” the stitch counts beginning on line 4 are incorrect. The correct stitch counts after increasing should be:  69 (71, 75, 77) (79, 81, 89) (91, 91, 95, 95).
Page 17, column 2, under “Left Front Band,” the stitch counts beginning on line 5 are incorrect. The correct stitch counts after increasing should be: 69 (71, 75, 77) (79, 81, 89) (91, 91, 95, 95).

Page 36, column 1, under “Materials,” the number of balls of color A (Concrete) should be 10 balls (not 20), and the number of balls of color B (Smoky) should be 2 balls (not 4).

 

Field Guide No. 13: Master Class

Stranded Stripe Throw by Kaffe Fassett

Page 26, column 1, under “Materials,” the list of Felted Tweed colors for which 1 ball is required is missing Electric Green.

 

Field Guide No. 14: Refresh

Page 16, column 2, “Left Front” should end with:

Purl 1 row.

and under “Shape Neck and Armhole,”  the first instruction after the Note should read:

Neck Inc Row (RS): K2, M1L, work to end. – 1 st inc.

Page 17, column 1, after “Shape Body, should read:
Increase row – (RS): [Work to 2  stitches before side marker…
The abbreviations for the 2/1 crosses are on page 44.

 

Field Guide No. 15: Open

Page 48, under “Abbreviations,” column 2, “Ssp” should read:
Ssp: Slip 2 stitches 1 at a time knitwise, slip them back to the left needle in their new orientation, purl them together through the back loops. One stitch has been decreased.

Page 23, Tumbling Blocks Lace chart: The 4th stitch from the right edge of the chart in Row 2 should be a knit stitch, not a y0. The chart below is correct.

Page 31, column 1, Row 97 should read:

Row 97: [K15, yo, s2kp2, yo, (k5, yo, twice, k3, sm] twice, k2, yo, s2kp2, yo, k5, yo, ssk.

 

Field Guide No. 16: Painterly

Watercolor Cowl by Kaffe Fassett

Page 8, under “Knitted Measurements,” column 1, should read:

37.5″ circumference at lower edge by 9.25″ height (95.5 x 23.5cm)

Page 9, under “Cowl,” column 1, third instruction should read:

—Work even until piece measures approximately 28″ (71cm), ending with Row 16 of chart.

The vertical measurement of the schematic should read: 28″ (71 cm)

The position of the CO and BO edges were reversed in the schematic on page 9 (and above). To match the sample shown, the CO edge should be at the top when sewing the piece together and the BO edge should be at the bottom. However, it isn’t essential to have the CO edge at the top; it will work equally well as currently shown.

 

Field Guide No. 17: Lopi

Page 10, under PLACE POCKETS, the following changes (in red) should be made:
Pocket Placement Rnd 1: BO 20 (20, 20, 20, 20) (22, 22, 22, 22) sts (beg with st on right needle), knit to 21 (21, 21, 21, 21) (23, 23, 23, 23) sts before marker, kfb, k1, pass 2nd st on right needle over last st, BO 20 (20, 20, 20, 20) (22, 22, 22, 22) sts (beg with st on right needle, and removing and replacing marker when you come to it), knit to end.

Page 10, under PLACE MOTIF, the following changes (in red) should be made:

— Work all rnds of your chosen motif, increasing 4 (0, 0, 0, 0) (2, 2, 2, 2) sts evenly spaced on first rnd of motif—120 (132, 144, 156, 168) (186, 198, 210, 222) sts.
— Cut A. Continuing in B only, work in st st until piece measures approximately 14″ (35.5 cm), adjusting the length if necessary depending on your chosen motif (see page 14).
— Work all rnds of your chosen motif, decreasing 4 (0, 0, 0, 0) (2, 2, 2, 2) sts evenly spaced on final rnd of motif—116 (132, 144, 156, 168) (184, 196, 208, 220) sts.
— Cut B.
