Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

Wow, you really like this month’s MDK Gems feature! Freia Shawl Balls have been flying out of MDK World Headquarters, and we can’t wait to see the Parallelogram Scarves popping off your needles.

Our stock of Freia Shawl Balls is down to the last of a few colors, but good news: we just unearthed a couple of whole bags we didn’t know we had, in the shade Squid Ink (aka Kay’s fave) and Sulfur Springs (aka the grellow of our dreams). Get ‘em while we’ve got ‘em, and get a special deal.

The special deal: Order any quantity of Freia Shawl Balls (or Yarn Bombs), and we’ll include a free ebook edition of Field Guide No. 5: Sequences, a $9.95 value. We are not joking when we say this book will change your knitting life. It’s amazing.

Fun on the Way

The new Field Guide already has folks buzzing. Designer Dee Hardwicke will join us for a Zoom party to celebrate the launch of MDK Field Guide No. 25. She’s utterly delightful, and you’ll love meeting her.

Date: Monday, September 18

Time: 12–1 p.m. Eastern time

Sign up here for this free virtual event, and we will send you the Zoom link when party time is near.

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Franklin Habit’s letter from Paris this week is one of the most beautiful pieces of writing MDK has ever published. We send you a ridiculous quantity of bisous, dear Franklin.

Patty Lyons explained why, when it comes to a lace chart, you can’t just flip it and reverse it (apologies to Missy Elliott).

Kay is trying to figure out how to seam four garter stitch blocks into a stripetastic blanket. Help her out.

If you knit to this DG Strong recommendation, your scarf will be 1,000 percent sexier. That’s what DG says—so we’re definitely trying it.

Remember to enter this week’s giveaway by midnight Central time Sunday night. The prize? Field Guides Subscription 2023! It’s never too late to get in on the fun and benefits of being a subscriber. (Already a subscriber? Thank you! If you’re the winner, you’ll get to Make Your Own Field Guide Bundle of three Field Guides of your choice.)

As ever, we thank you for supporting this community and this beloved, handcrafted enterprise. Every morning, we bring the best in knitting to you, fresh and hot.

We share it for free, but good content is expensive. We urge you to support what you love, and have a great shopping experience while you’re at it. Thank you for keeping us going!

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

September Gems

MDK Gems is a quick moment when we celebrate a great Field Guide design and yarn.

Cecelia Campochiaro’s Parallelogram Scarf from Field Guide No. 5: Sequences is the star this month.

Order any quantity of Freia Shawl Balls, and we’ll include a free ebook edition of Field Guide No. 5: Sequences, a $9.95 value.

We still have several colors available of mesmerizing, colorful cakes.

Pretty much any two colors will make a beautiful result. Our only advice? Avoid getting too matchy about it—the color contrasts are the fun here! You knit it to find out what color is next. It is weirdly and totally compelling.
