A programming note about a new feature beginning today.

Snippets is our weekly email newsletter—a digest of the week’s posts on MDK. It’s also where we highlight special offers, sales, events, and Zooms.

For many, many folks, our Snippets email is a favorite Saturday morning ritual, often enjoyed while still in PJs, often enjoyed with a cup of warm sustenance.

That will continue—when you sign up for Snippets, you’ll get it in your email box, as ever. (Sign up here, if you’re feeling it!)

Plus!

Beginning today, we’re going to run Snippets right here on MDK every Saturday. Knit to This will appear on Sundays, alternating with Atlas Insider.

So if your email goes wonky, or maybe you want to check out Snippets before signing up for a weekly email from us, you’ll find your weekly dose of Snippets right here on our homepage, every Saturday morning.

Without further ado, please settle in and enjoy.

Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

It’s a big week at MDK World Headquarters. On Friday, we pushed the big scary button that generates shipping labels for subscription copies of a brand-new Field Guide.

If you’re a Field Guide subscriber, check your email for an order confirmation from us—it includes your download of the ebook edition. Be the first on your block to see the designs of MDK Field Guide No. 23!

And if you’re not a Field Guide subscriber, it’s not too late to be an earlybird—subscribe now to the MDK Field Guides for 2023. Scroll down to read all the benefits of subscribing, which include a 10 percent discount every time you shop at MDK, and the beautiful feeling of supporting all the free daily fun at MDK, which we deeply appreciate.

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

We may have let the cat out of the bag a little early, but have you seen the official-official announcement of the designers for Field Guide No. 23? It’s Arne & Carlos!

More good news: The MDK Gem for January is Iceland’s budget-friendly wonder yarn, Léttlopi. Our special offer: Order any quantity of Léttlopi from now through Wednesday, January 18, and we’ll give you a free PDF download of MDK Field Guide No. 17: Lopi. The download link will arrive in your order confirmation email. Please note that quantities are limited, and we’re low on some colors—so you’ll want to hop on this if you’re in the mood for amazingly affordable yarn and the wonderful patterns of the magnificent Mary Jane Mucklestone.

A little scarf pattern that she couldn’t stop knitting got Kay thinking about her philosophy on knitting for others

Ann has 56,982 photos and no idea what to do with them. If that problem sounds familiar, you are going to want to read the comments on this one.

We did it! In the last two months of the year, MDK readers finished up an incredible collection of stunning temperature blankets. Dive in to the beautiful photos, which include the three projects that won MDK Gift Cards. One thing’s for sure: we’re going to be cooking up more temperature project fun in 2023.

Everything Is Alive is an imaginative podcast that will give us countless hours of knitting, thinking, and laughing out loud.

Department of Never a Dull Moment: This week’s Atlas Insider is about that time Ann thought it would be neighborly to let a NASCAR trailer park for a while in the MDK parking lot.

Remember to enter our giveaway by midnight Central time Sunday night. We have a zippy little MDK pouch to give away this week, filled with an MDK surprise for you.

At MDK, making knitters happy is Job One. If you have a question, or something is not right, email us at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from Nathan or Kay.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

Get Ready: Big Fun in February

Stay tuned for details of our plans for big knitalong fun in February, as we join Arne & Carlos and their legion of fans for a worldwide flash knitalong.

Our project will be a jewel of a hat that requires a skein each of these colors of Norwegian Wool: Ribbon Red, Gold Nugget, Wind Chime, Daphne, and Frost Pink. You’ll need needles for knitting small circumferences in the round by your preferred method, in size 3 mm and 3.5 mm. (Here’s a heavy hint: you can buy exactly those colors in a tidy bundle, right here.)

  • So no more “Knit to This”?

    • Calm down y’all! Do you think we’re nuts? We love Knit to This too—when we get stumped for something to watch, we check out the Knit to This department for something good. It’s going to continue to appear, alternating with Atlas Insider, on Sundays.

Meanwhile, If you’re looking for your next thing to knit to, here are 300 choice, solid-gold, eyeball-tested, earbud-ready Knit To Thises: https://www.moderndailyknitting.com/category/fun/?fwp_select_one=knit-to-this

      Enjoy!

      • Thanks for clarifying. It really wasn’t clear. And really can’t you get rid of the Snippets pop up for those who already subscribe? It pops up every day.

        • That’s an issue with the user’s cookie settings. If you accept cookies, the pop up recognizes you as someone who’s already seen it. If you block cookies, you’re always a newcomer to the pop up.

    • Yes, I do not consider this a plus.

  • Knit to This! Knit to This!! Knit to This!

LOVE my Saturday recommendations… please keep ‘em coming, DC!

  • Please continue the Knit to This! That’s what I look forward to each Saturday!

    • Yes, I don’t think people are looking forward to Snippets.

      • I am! They remind me to go back and check out an article I may not have had time to read during the week.
Thanks for all the wonderful, inspiring content you post without fail, Ann and Kay and MDK gang!

      • I LOVE reading Snippets every Saturday because I can’t keep up with the daily posts.

    • Ditto!

  • Snippets is every Saturday, right? What about Knit to This?
    I have 2 Snippets today.

    • Me too.

  • Does this mean no more Snippets pop up?

    • No, it looks like the annoying Snippets pop up is still there.

  • Your Saturday emails are definitely part of my routine: coffee and Snippets. The content can certainly change as it is always informative and entertaining while I slowly start the weekend in my pjs with you.

  • Looks like those “please don’t change a thing” folks need another cup of coffee or tea.

    • Lol Jan:-) I have found that as I age, I’m more resistant to change. Like down right cranky!

  • I too enjoy the Knit To This recommendations. Hopefully they still show up somewhere in MDK

  • The above letter addresses everyone’s concern about Knit to This, in the 4th paragraph, “Knit to This will appear on Sundays, alternating with Atlas Insider.” My understanding is that Snippets will now appear for everyone signed up for the MDK newsletter, every Saturday, no longer a need to subscribe to Snippets additionally. Someone correct me if that’s wrong?

    • Ok re-reading the letter I see that I didn’t quite get it right either…

  • I love Saturday morning Snippets! I also love Atlas Insider! I like knit to this and sometimes I have time to watch or listen or add to the list for later! The pop up is annoying but goes away fast after clicking no thanks! Because I’m already subscribed, unlike other companies! You guys do a great job.

  • Love you no matter what content is there, it’s all always a treat to wake up to. We are very fortunate that you are posting new content daily. I don’t always remember to look at my email on Saturday so snippets is perfect to have here! Love you all at MDK, so creative and fun. I hope you have a presence at VKL in February!

    • Ditto!

  • Dear God people, get a grip. So big deal, you got two Snippets. Do you not know where the “delete” button is on your email?

    • This is not what we are objecting to. The snippets screen begging you to subscribe pops up on the web site blocking you from reading—every day and even if you are already subscribed.

      • Apparently it’s because people have blockers that block cookies. The website thinks you are a new reader.

  • I myself wish you’d bring back the cardboard sleeve that the Field Guides fit in. I need a second one to fit all the Field Guides that I have. It’s so much easier to pluck out the issue I want to look at vs. digging them out of a cloth bag.
I love Snippets and most of the time don’t get them read on Saturday, so I don’t care what day they arrive in my inbox.
