Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of Field Guide No. 23: Glow, starring that dynamic duo from Norway, Arne & Carlos.

Starting now, the knitting is going to be fantastically colorful. The four designs in this Field Guide show Arne & Carlos’s love for the knitting traditions of Scandinavia, blended with their modern sensibility, whimsy, and humor.

Get your copy right here. Your options: a print edition with a Ravelry download code inside, or an ebook-only edition.

We’ve created a brand-new lookbook for this Field Guide—it shows all the projects and yarns you’ll need, with shopping cart links for easy shopping. Just click below to view!

Celebrate with Arne & Carlos

We have a Zoom launch party set for Tuesday, January 31, noon Eastern time. Arne & Carlos will be joining us from their cozy home in Norway. We can’t wait to talk with them about these Field Guide designs and the knitalong that has us all wound up. Sign up for this free event here, and we’ll email you the Zoom link on January 31.

Knitalong Begins Next Wednesday, February 1

To kick off this Field Guide in style, we’re all going to knit the Setesdal Hat during February. This project is going to get us all limbered up for knitting in Arne & Carlos’s wonderful world.

We’ve got a yarn bundle, right here, that will set you up for glory: five colors of Rowan Norwegian Wool, enough to make several Setesdal Hats if you try different color combinations. (We are also pretty excited about a two-color version. If that’s your preference, pick those 2 colors here, and off you go!)

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

The postman really delivered this week: we got a new letter from MDK’s man in Paris, Franklin Habit

New pattern alert! The Checkered Scarf is a bright and bulky beauty. Samantha Brunson not only made it with Atlas, she designed it with Atlas!

Here’s the handy, humble knitting trick that broke the internet this week.

Lifting a new sweater off the blocking board is never not exciting. Ann celebrated the glorious finish of her Grace Notes Pullover, and shared her tips and tricks.

We are bleating and barking with joy: All Creatures Great and Small is back for a third season on Masterpiece!  There’s no finer TV to knit to, while gazing at all the snazzy colorwork knitting supplied by the costume department.

Remember to enter our giveaway by midnight Central time Sunday night. The prize? Two balls of Big Wool and a copy of Field Guide No. 12: Big Joy to make a Jen Geigley Striped or Rubble Hat.

If you’re new to MDK, we hope our happy place quickly becomes your happy place. Our mission is to elevate the knitting life, by providing free daily content, exciting books, friendly community, and a first-class shopping experience. If you have a question, or something is not right, email us at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from Nathan or Kay.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

If you’re on the lookout for your first Scandinavian sweater project, we humbly point you to Valdres Pullover. Get your Norwegian Wool here.

Rosy Mittens bundles come in Klar and Ravn.

The Kos Neckwarmer is an excellent warm-up (pun intended) for bigger colorwork projects, such as the Valdres Pullover. Pick your Norwegian Wool palette here.

Next Wednesday, February 1, we’ll drop the rope on a worldwide flash knitalong with Arne & Carlos and their worldwide legion of fans.

We’ll be knitting the Setesdal Hat from MDK Field Guide No. 23: Glow. It requires 1 skein of each of these colors of Rowan Norwegian Wool: Ribbon Red, Gold Nugget, Wind Chime, Daphne, and Frost Pink. To make it easy, we’ve made up bundles of exactly those colors right here.

  • Hello! Will the Jan 31 Zoom from Norway be recorded? I have a work conflict at that time but am interested!

    • Yes! We’ll post the recording link in articles and in this weekly roundup. Thanks for tuning in, Kristen.

      • Terrific! Thank you!

  • I am receiving two copies of Snippets. Is that how it’s supposed to be? Just wondering. Thanks.

    • For those of us who already get snippets on Saturday, now we are receiving a “second” copy of snippets. Seems like we’re missing out on an episode. It’s not fair to us who have to “sign up” to get snippets and everyone else gets one anyway, and we get two!!!!!!

      • Snippets email subscribers will get first notice things that are of limited availability, and they get Snippets delivered to their inbox, which we hope is a convenience. Snippets is one of the team’s favorite projects, every week, and we wanted to share it more widely.

      • Ann and Kay very generously write us seven wonderful posts a week for free and snippets makes eight. Making snippets the Saturday post gives them a bit of breathing room in coming up with new material every single day!
IMHO I don’t think this is a matter of being unfair.

      • One thing I have noticed is that the new Snippets has the place to leave comments!

  • 2 copies of snippets is confusing. I thought it was me, but apparently it’s happening to everyone.
