Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

We are thrilled to announce a new virtual workshop, Gnome for the Holidays. If you haven’t made one of Sarah Schira’s addictive adorables yet, there’s gnome time like the present.

Our teacher will be the pied piper of gnome knitting, Sarah Schira. Sarah will guide us through making Gnoah, the little guy who started gnome-mania. The kit—included with the class—is irresistible.

Also Coming Up: Stranded Colorwork with Lorilee Beltman

Dee Hardwicke’s fresh floral designs for Field Guide No. 25: Botanica make us want to cast on all the things. To warm up our stranded colorwork skills, we’ve turned to one of the knitting world’s star teachers, Lorilee Beltman. She’ll be leading a brand-new virtual class for both newcomers and old hands at color. Loads of color-loving knitters will be joining us, but we’ve still got a place for you.

Please join us on Friday, October 13, from noon-3:00 p.m. Eastern. In a three-hour session on Zoom, we’ll dive into stranded colorwork knitting. The project? Dee’s endearing Treeline Cowl. As always with MDK workshops, the class kit is deluxe, a treat in itself. Register here and we’ll get the kit in the mail to you asap so you’ll have it in time for the workshop.

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

The Great Botanica Knitalong starts now! Join the fun—all the details are here

We stepped into Dee Hardwicke’s light- and color-filled studio, thanks to her Portrait in Objects.

“Everyone begins as a beginner.” Don’t be surprised if Samantha Brunson’s report on first projects from four expert makers sends you sliding down the slope of a new craft yourself.

Ann celebrated Seasonless, Karen Templer’s beautiful new collection of patterns for life.

For a top-up of inspiration this weekend, listen in on our conversation with Dee Hardwicke, who beamed in from her studio in Wales.

Remember to enter this week’s giveaway by midnight Central time Sunday night. The prize? Field Guides Subscription 2023! It’s never too late to get in on the fun and benefits of being a subscriber.

As ever, we thank you for supporting this beloved, handcrafted enterprise. Every morning, we bring the best in knitting to you, fresh and hot. This is made possible by your purchases from the MDK Shop—thank you!

We urge you to support what you love, and have a great shopping experience while you’re at it. Thank you for keeping us going.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

Dee Hardwicke uses MDK Atlas yarn for all six designs—she loves the palette of 22 colors and the light, lofty 100% Rambouillet wool.

Botanica Watercolor Kit. An MDK exclusive: the finest watercolor set, with a book, brush, and pencil. We’re charmed by Dee Hardwicke’s gorgeous watercolors, so join us with this set for a beautiful, inspiring start.

Cottage Throw. This is one of the most glorious designs we’ve ever seen. Six color stories and a modern set of motifs combine to create a treasure for you to love. This yarn bundle is truly special.

Climbing Vine Mitts. A quick project. Your thumbs will thank you.

Treeline Cowl. We were gobsmacked when Dee showed us this colorway.

Blossom Stripe Shawl. A band of flowers trails across a field of stripes. Love this. In two colorways.

Flora Arm Warmers. Fun, quick, a perfect welcome to autumn.

Autumn Garden Stole. Sophisticated color here, such a forever piece.

  • Would the gnome workshop be a good introduction to knitting with DPNs? Because I REALLY need to learn how to do this!

    • Yes it would! Very tiny circumferences, so not a lot of stitches to manage. It’s easier than you think!

      • Oh well then I guess I’m in, darn another workshop! 😀

        • Did the kit sell out? When I went to purchase, it says insufficient stock. Thank you.
