Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

Today is the day! The beloved MDK Holiday Shop is open for all manner of miscellaneous merriment.

Team MDK has spent an entire year hunting down the things that open our hearts, whether we’re on the go or at home. Kind readers tell us that MDK Holiday Shop is a highlight of the season (thank you).

Leaf, if you will, through our magnificent lookbook:

The picture is a link!

Special thanks to graphic designer Hannah Jones and photographer Chris Sharp, who’ve outdone themselves, and to the makers of the beautiful goods we highlight. By shopping the MDK Holiday Shop, you support MDK and other small businesses making beautiful, sustainable things.

A note of reality: quantities are limited, and when we sell out, we sell out. Shop now to avoid disappointment and feel smug and sassy about getting your holiday shopping done early—so you can knit!

Join us on Monday!

We’re hosting a Holiday Shop launch party on Zoom, Monday, October 30, at 3:00 pm Eastern. Come hear tales of how we found all these special things. We’ll post the Zoom link in our post on Monday morning and on the MDK homepage. Door prizes ahead, for sure, so don’t miss this.

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Samantha Brunson bid an admiring farewell to the queen of McQueen, whose iconic sculptural knitwear will inspire knitters and designers for years to come.

Max Daniels has a simple strategy for finally crossing that odious task off your list: the set-up. It works!

It was a tough day for makers who deserved better. Please join us in supporting the vendors of Wool & Folk festival.

In a lovely, brokenhearted piece, Atlas Artist (and Insider) Hannah Jones turns to nature for help getting her spark back. The comments are beautiful, too.

Remember to enter our giveaway by midnight tomorrow night. The publishers of Knitting for Olive: Twenty Modern Knitting Patterns from the Iconic Danish Brand have copies of this brand-new book set aside to send out to three lucky commenters.

As ever, we thank you all for supporting MDK through thick and thin. Every morning, we bring the best writers, teachers, and knitting to you, free of charge. This is made possible by your purchases from the MDK Shop—thank you!

We invite you to support what you love, and have a great shopping experience while you’re at it. Thank you for keeping us going.

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

STEP ON THE GAS

If you’re dreaming of knitting somebody a Christmas stocking, it’s pretty much Go Time. In our New Ancestral Stocking Kit, you’ll find four jolly shades of Atlas yarn that can make two stockings if you change the order of colors on your second stocking. And—you get your very own jingle bell. (We’re wildly excited about the jingle bell.)

Want to dream up your own merry colors? The pattern is available separately here. Choose your own four colors of Atlas!

  • You outdid yourselves!!! I want everything in the look book but I’ll try to narrow it down – little bit

  • I wish you still included stickers on the boxes like you did a couple of years ago

    • Hi there! We switched to preprinted MDK paper tape for environmental reasons a while back, but if you ever want some of the little coated orange MDK stickers like we used to use on shipping boxes, just include a note with your order and we can pop a few in your box.

  • Wow! It’s beautiful. Cheers to everyone for a job well done.

  • The Zoom registration does not seem to be working.

    • Sorry about that—glitches are Halloweening us these days! Watch for the Zoom link in our MDK post on Monday morning, and also at the top of the MDK homepage. Looking forward to being with you!

  • For any of you who aren’t subscribers you need to know that the subscribers got an advanced look (and we do on the FGs, too)! I placed my order last night and received a 10% discount to boot! Subscription is the way to go!!!
Love this stuff. Great job (again) MDK.

  • Vermillion Knittets Tote! Squeeeeeeee!!!!!
    Ordered. Happy Fall to me!!

    • That would be “Knitter’s “

  • I have to say that the Tulip needle set I bought from MDK last year is super. The join with the wee rubber washer is genius, never comes undone. Over time the number sizes start to wear off of the bamboo needles but a Sharpie does the trick to restore them. They’re a beautiful set.

  • When my son was in Pre-K, he brought the same teddy bear to show and tell every Friday so he could sleep with it at nap time. He is 20 years old and I still have the teddy bear.
