Dear Kay,

I love this scarf so much. It’s beautiful to see—the playful motifs are such a fine cacophony, and it all hangs together because the colors are soft and friendly together.

What is this creation?

It’s what happens when the very clever Nell Ziroli sits down with a batch of Léttlopi and five stranded colorwork stitch motifs by Mary Jane Mucklestone from the new Field Guide No. 17: Lopi.

Nell began with the Destination Scarf pattern that appears in Field Guide No. 17: Lopi, then improvised the heck out of it.

Each motif looks unique given the colors being used. Your scarf will look unique, too, as you choose what colors to use for each of the two-color motifs. It’s all fun, and it’s a great way to play with Mary Jane’s ideas.

We have a bundle in the Shop for this project, the Color Shifting Bundle. It’s 11 skeins of Léttlopi in this palette, which leaves plenty of room for you to improvise your own array of simple stranded motifs. You can’t go wrong with this set of soft colors.

I am loving how fast Mary Jane’s projects can be knitted. I’m going to do mine using Magic Loop, so I can get a good groove going on the stranding.

Love,

Ann

  • It was a knitting adventure! The colors and charts that I used are listed on my Ravelry page, my user name there is Nell. Happy Knitting!

    • So inspiring! Love the color stories. Thank you!

    • I searched your ravelry page and was unable to find the pattern, HELP

      • I found it by searching her “recently finished” projects!

  • I have ordered yarn for two scarves. One Destination Scarf Bundle in the greens, one “bundle” I put together myself in jewel tones. I was so glad that you stock the needles, too. This way, I could do one stop shopping, and be set to go when the yarn arrives. I am so excited!

    • Oh, have fun with all this! So glad to hear.

  • I’m guessing this could be made into a double loop cowl, no?

    • Definitely. It’s double thick because it’s knit in the round, and it’s also stranded, so it’s a 4-strand thickness basically. A big snuggler, not a drapey cowl. Great for wintertime.

      • Oooh, yeah, a big snuggler! Thanks for the reply

  • I realized yesterday I have some Lettlopi that I bought in the Rejkavik airport a few years ago … in the AIRPORT duty free shop. They sold YARN and I had to buy some (along w my Cadbury Fruit and NYT bars, that is)
Now this field guide is tempting me.

    • Nut bars. Cadbury Fruit and Nut bars from airports not the horror Hershey sells here. I guess stupid autocorrect at least recognizes I read The Gray Lady daily. Sigh.

  • How many skeins do you need for the scarf , for the mittens and for the hat? Please give the amounts per project. The. I can order the book and the yar. At the same time. Thank you.
The zoom class this past Monday was stupendous!!!! Linda Einsidler

    • I think the yardage information will be on the ravelry pages for the patterns you want to knit, so you should be able to work it out before you buy 😀

  • How do I get on a wait list for the color shifting bundle?
