Color Shifting Bundle
These eleven skeins are your ticket to the joy of playing with color and pattern.
In Field Guide No. 17, Mary Jane Mucklestone plays with the notion of bridging between sections of color by incorporating small stitch motifs that use the old and new colors at the same time. These simple motifs can be varied almost endlessly by using different placements of the colors; a small change can make the pattern look completely different. The only way to know how it will look is to experiment.
While knitting the photography samples for this Field Guide, Nell Ziroli sat down with a batch of Léttlopi colors and followed Mary Jane’s ladders—charts that show us what happens to a simple stitch motif when the knitter makes subtle, incremental shifts in color placement. What started as a swatch—a woolly design sketchpad—turned into a scarf so magnificent that we had to photograph it, too.
This bundle contains enough colors and yards to create your own version of this improvisational color-shifting scarf by following Mary Jane Mucklestone’s charts on pages 36 and 37 of Field Guide No. 17. No two color-shifting scarves will be the same, and they will all be wonderful to knit and to wear.
