Dear everybody,

A quick note to let you know that we are working on a new virtual class for the Floating Squares Wrap, Amy Christoffers’s design in Field Guide No. 29: Mosaic.

We’re not quite ready to launch registration, but I did want to give a heads up that it’s in the works for later this summer.

It’s going to be a class about working with silk/mohair yarn and with mosaic knitting.

The teacher? Lorilee Beltman will explain it all for us, and I for one can’t wait to hear what she’s got to teach us.

You’ll supply your own yarn, or you can order a bundle from us.

If you’ve already ordered the bundle of Lang yarn for this project, this class will be a great experience.

If you’ve been eyeing this bundle, we’ve got a few left of two colorways: Blue and Yellow.

We can’t get more of these Lang yarns at this point (sadness), so we’re cooking up some more bundles using Rowan Kidsilk Haze (gladness). We’ll let you know when they’re ready.

A Quick Peek at My Latest

My own Floating Squares Wrap uses Rowan Kidsilk Haze. I think it’s a pattern that works with any mohair/silk blend lace weight yarn, so if you’ve been squirreling away some, this might just be its moment of destiny. The fun with this design, I think, is that it allows you to invent your own set of colors.

As I have said before, this is the prettiest thing I’ve ever made—prettier than the piano bench cushion of 2004, lovelier than the eight-skeins-one-sweater triumph of 2015. More astonishing than those yellow socks of 2019.

I’m less than 50 rows from glory.

I’m running low on Jane Austen movies, but I think one more dose of Persuasion will get me over the finish line.

My version uses a ton of Kidsilk Haze colors—11 in all—which I can’t name because they were all missing their labels. “Pink and orange and purple” doesn’t quite cover the range of colors, but that’s kind of where it all landed.

This final stretch shows what it looks like before it’s had a quick steaming from my Rowenta. A bit loopy. A bit wobbly.

Steam really does wonders for smoothing out bumps and lumps. [Runs off for steamy shower to see if similar results happen to humans as well as handknits.]
