A New Class with Cecelia Campochiaro: Reversible Cables!

Dear knitters in search of good fun,
Some of our fondest memories involve sitting and learning from Cecelia Campochiaro. Cecelia has blown our minds (multiple times) with her sequence knitting techniques, and also with her brilliantly visual and tactile approach to marling.
What has Cecelia been up to lately, you may wonder?
Reversible fabrics in knitting. Specifically, but not exclusively, reversible cables.
When Cecelia told us she was working on a book about reversible knitting, we immediately pitched her to teach a virtual class. We knew it was going to be a great adventure, just like every journey we’ve ever taken with Cecelia.
Cecelia’s new book has just been published, and we are delighted to announce a brand-new virtual class on reversible cables, with Cecelia as our guide.
The Class
Please join us on Friday, September 26, for a virtual workshop with renowned teacher Cecelia Campochiaro. In a 3-hour Zoom class, we’ll dive into the wondrous technique of reversible cables.
This class will be rich in tips and tricks, suitable for both newcomers and old hands. Plus: there’s an optional kit of luscious Ito yarns to make the Wriley Shawl as shown.
And yes—the class will be recorded, for watching and rewatching when it’s convenient for you.
The Project

We’ll be making a brand-new cabled design by Cecelia Campochiaro, the Wriley Shawl. Wriley is a luxuriously long rectangular shawl that looks the same on both sides through the magic of reversible cables.

In class, you’ll learn about how reversible stitch patterns work, with a detailed walk-through of Cecelia’s new book, Reversible Knitting, and learn how the Wriley Shawl is made. During class, we’ll make a small swatch that uses all the techniques in the shawl. After making the swatch, we’ll be all set to cast on one of the most elegant pieces we’ve ever seen.

Finished dimensions: approximately 15 x 88 inches (38 x 224 cm)

Workshop participants will be among the first knitters of this beautiful new design. We don’t throw this term around lightly, but the Wriley Shawl has heirloom written all over it.
Wriley is versatile; we can envision beautiful versions in many different yarns, but none will be more sumptuous than Cecelia’s deliciously light combination of Kinu + Sensai.
The Kit (Optional)
If you choose the class + kit option, your kit will contain 3 delicious cones of Ito Kinu, a 100-percent silk yarn, and 5 balls of Ito Sensai (kid mohair + silk) to be held together.

While supplies last, we are offering seven colorways that Cecelia picked from her JP Morgan-like private library of Kinu and Ito. These are among her most favorite yarns, with good reason. See all seven colorways at the top of this post, or in the product listing here.
The Teacher
In high demand, Cecelia travels the globe to work with knitters in person at festivals and retreats. A virtual workshop with her is a rare opportunity, and kind of a big deal!
Cecelia is a brilliant teacher—she knows exactly how to introduce reversible cables in a way that will set your imagination spinning. She literally just wrote the book on reversible knitting!

While seeking simple knitting projects to take with her on business trips, Cecelia “unvented” a simple way of knitting in which complex-looking fabrics “just happen.” This discovery led to mountains of swatches, months of work, and the publication, in 2015, of her groundbreaking book, Sequence Knitting: Simple Methods for Creating Complex Reversible Fabrics. Sequence Knitting was followed by Making Marls: A Sourcebook for Multistranded Handknitting, an exquisite exploration of knitting with multiple strands of yarn.
This year, Cecelia’s landmark books got a new sibling: Reversible Knitting: A Handbook and Stitch Dictionary.
Reversible Knitting takes a fresh look at stitch patterns for hand knitting where both sides of the fabric look the same. Reversible Knitting includes a stitch dictionary with over 300 stitch patterns and extensive general information about working reversible fabrics.
Order your copy now, right here. We’ll be shipping them out next week.
Join the Fun
Cecelia’s designs hit the sweet spot where simplicity of technique meets astonishing beauty and lifelong wearability. Students rave about her workshops, and we can’t wait to bring her to you again.
The teacher, the project, the yarn, the technique: this is going to be so, so good. We hope you’ll join us on September 26!
Love,
Ann and Kay

What wonderful news! I’ve been trying which pattern in the book to try first and now you have decided for me. Thanks for giving us yet another experience to look forward to.
I hate to be the naysayer, but I don’t see cables? Is it just supposed to be an optical illusion?
They’re tiny reversible cables!
Thank’s Kay.
Wowza! Cecelia teaching virtually again? How lucky are we! Count me in. Now to choose a colorway…
I am really looking forward to this class! I enjoyed the last virtual class you had with Cecilia.
I’m so excited about this one! Cecelia is one of my favorite teachers and I just love spending a time with her, learning her techniques. While the kits are gorgeous (the colors!), I’m allergic to mohair so I will have to find a substitute.
Ohhh I can’t wait!
Do we need to buy the book to receive the Wriley Shawl pattern?
I am so excited for this class, and the yarn choices for the pattern are gorgeous. Cecelia is a genius!
We will give you a download code for the pattern. It’s not in the book, it’s brand-new!
Thank you, what a treat for the MDK faithful! So looking forward to this class.
