What is an MDK Gem, you ask?

It’s that special moment when we shine the MDK sunbeam on a favorite Field Guide design and yarn, and offer you a quick special deal.

This month, we’ve got extra fun lined up for you!

The design

Say hello to the extremely cute Trellis Top by Carol Feller, whose Field Guide No. 14: Refresh is a perennial favorite around here.

This layering piece features Carol’s trademark inventiveness, with a subtle cable pattern and buttons down the sides so you can wear it as you like. See the yarn requirements for your size here.

The yarn?

It’s Nua Sport, the yarn designed by Carol herself. It’s a special, rare yarn, so we’re particularly excited to have a new batch of all 17 shades.

Here’s a skein of Nua Sport for you to see up close and personal. The blend is unusual: 60% merino wool, 20% yak, and 20% linen. Carol chose these fibers in order to create a yarn that is soft (merino), silky (yak), and sturdy (linen).

Truly a dream yarn. Her palette is all kinds of beautiful, drawn from the Irish countryside where Carol takes her walks.

What’s the special deal?

From now through Wednesday, April 19, when you order any quantity of Nua Sport, we’ll include a free PDF download of Field Guide No. 14: Refresh, a collection of four patterns using Nua Sport. It’s a $9.95 value.

See all four designs here—they’re glorious and all call for Nua Sport.

Plus! Carol joins us next week!

We’re chuffed to bits that we’re hosting a Zoom conversation with Carol Feller on Monday, April 17 at 11:00 am Central time right here. She’ll be joining us from her home in Ireland.

Join us as we talk about all that Carol’s up to right now, and we’ll definitely get into the designs she created for Field Guide No. 14: Refresh.

Editor’s Note: If you missed the Zoom conversation with Carol, check your Saturday, April 22 Snippets for the event recording link. Not signed up for Snippets? The sign up window is here. Snippets is our free weekly roundup of articles and MDK happenings.

  • One of my favorite yarns. Love the way it feels and looks. Colors are amazing. (I believe Ann described them as chalky. The brightness is balanced by grayish white.) Love the texture of the patterns. I made this Trellis Top. It is a perfect layering piece, adding warmth and visual interest.

    Looking forward to Monday’s event.

Just signed up. The link worked.

  • Finished Trellis Top at the start of the year and have had lots of wear out of it. It’s a wonderful pattern.

  • My daughter just finished the wrap and it is BEAUTIFUL! So much fun to share my love of knitting with my daughter. I have yarn to make the Trellis vest. Maybe this Zoom call will give me the confidence to start!

  • I am trying the link again as others have said it is working now.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Carol at her Shop in Cork. Just finished her pattern “woodburne’ using her Blasta(?) yarn! Why is this website so hard to use
