Dear Everybody,

March’s Nash Yarn Fest was a watershed for us in so many ways. Realizing our dream of a bighearted in-person gathering unlocked other dreams that have been in the pipeline for years.

One of those long-cherished, oft-requested dreams is coming true—beginning this Friday!

We’ve finally taken the leap to have regular drop-in hours so that people can come visit, shop, and meet other knitters at MDK World Headquarters, the welcoming-est warehouse in Nashville.

Starting this Friday, we’ll be open every Friday and Monday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The address: 441 Atlas Drive, in Nashville.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through our fair city, you’re cordially invited to drop in, say hey, and look around.

What awaits you at 441 Atlas Drive?

We don’t know! Like everything we’ve ever done, this experiment is guided by one question: what would be fun for knitters, crocheters, and lovers of the fiber crafts?

But here are some things you can count on:

Seeing and touching MDK’s own yarns, Atlas and Jane, plus the new kid on the block: Atlas x Madelinetosh. Flip through our collection of sample garments, try them on, and dream of what you’ll cast on for yourself. We have hundreds of Field Guide samples to explore, in real life.

Browsing tools, kits, and special items, some of which are offered in our online MDK Shop, and some not!

Sitting and knitting while comfortably ensconced on a variety of cozy, worn-in furnishings salvaged from various team redecorating projects. Wicker or leather? It’s up to you. Just bring your knitting.

Meeting MDK folks. Ann will be around a lot, and Kay will grace us with her high-and-mighty Auntie Mame-ness whenever she’s in town. The warehouse is our team’s workplace, where the magic happens. (Magic includes, but is not limited to: shipping out orders, taking photos, and lots of typing, Zooms, and coffee.) With any luck, you’ll see Natasha, Hannah, Emily, Chris, Ashley, and Ashe—collect the set!

And most important of all—meeting other knitters. Our fondest hope is that if we build it, the knitters will come. Just like Field of Dreams, except the knitters will be living people and not the ghosts of baseball players.

Help Us Name Our Shop

Given how long we’ve been thinking about this little chunk of brick and mortar heaven, you’d think we’d have a name for it. But we don’t! There are so many options, it’s frankly daunting.

That’s where you come in! We’re running a little contest to name the shop at Atlas. Three lucky winners will each receive a $100 MDK Gift Card, redeemable in the MDK Shop—online or in real life.

The Rules

  1. Suggest a name for the shop at Atlas in the comments below. One comment per person, please, but you may suggest more than one name in your comment.
  2. Contest closes on Monday, May 6. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, May 8, in the banner on our home page at moderndailyknitting.com.
  3. Two gift card winners will be selected by random drawing, and one winner will be selected by Ann and Kay.
  4. Although we would be thrilled to find the perfect name for the shop via this contest, we reserve the right not to name the shop any of the winning names or any of the suggested names. Whim and caprice will rule the day.

This contest is for fun and general amusement, so don’t hold back on a name because you think we might not actually choose it for the shop.

Here we go, have fun everybody!

Love,

Ann and Kay

  • Great idea to have a contest! It seems to me that MDK has been synonymous with online knitting, crocheting and sewing for years. I think the the shop should be called: MDK IRL!

    • How fun! Wish I was closer!

    • I Love this.

First two that came into my head:
      Atlas Hugged
      Little Shop of Yarn Things

I know it will be a great success!

      • Brilliant!

    • Whim and Caprice

      • I thought the same!

  • At Last At Atlas

  • I think “Sticks and String” would be a good name. After all, that’s knitting in it’s most basic form.

  • I’m so excited for this! I’m planning on being in Nashville in April of 2026, and now I know the first place I want to visit. Here are some options:
    Atlas Shrugs (and other knits)

Nashville Amazing Fiber (can be shortened to Nashville AF)
Awesome Beautiful Creativity — tag line can be “The ABC store that’s good for your soul!”

  • After reading the descriptions for how the shop will be, I had an immediate sense of coziness, so I suggest “The Cozy”.
I also sensed a place that protects the occupants from the noise and stress of the outer world, with Ann in charge, so alternatively I suggest “The Nest” with Ann as the Mama bird in residence, and Kay as a glamorous creature from “Feathered and Fabulous” who flies in on occasion.

  • I have always been tickled at the description of your home base as “World Headquarters”! This would imply that there are divisions all over the Earth. Well….you actually DO have so many far flung divisions! So why not embrace a globe and the mythical Atlas to name the shop Wide World of Yarn! The thrill of victory…..the agony of defeat…..for those who remember….

  • Dixie Knits & More

  • I loved the vibe of Mason Dixon Knitting-seemed so cute and cheeky at the time, but different times call for different names. Why not simply Modern Daily Knitting? It kind of sums it all up!

  • Don’t get fancy – just call it “MDK”. That’s what people will call it regardless of any other name you give it. Maybe add shop – MDK Shop

  • MAKE ONE or M1 at MDK or M1DK

I also think making small photo cards of the different staff members and slipping one at random into a purchase at the IRL store would be fun. Shoppers could REALLY collect a full set and maybe then they could reap a little prize!

    Can’t wait!

  • Little Shop of Yarners is what came immediately to mind with the name of the article!

  • So fun!

  • Yarn shop name: YARN

It’s clean, simple and we knitters know that it will also include notions, patterns, etc.

  • The Market @ MDK! I think keeping MDK in the name is important. The Market @ MDK allows for adding other types of spaces later such as The Commons @ MDK or the School @ MDK.

    Or simply, MDK Market

  • MDK Yarn Stop
    MDK Ingredients
    MDK LYS

MDK embodies this in the knitting space…creating space that leaves the world of knitting and crocheting better than it was!

Athena Knits on Atlas (aka MDK)

    • Oooh! You have my vote!

  • I propose the end of your announcement: Whim and Caprice. However, I admit “yarn” should be in the name. I dislike businesses choosing a name that gives no clue as to what the business is.

  • My Drop-in Knittery

  • 1- M.D. Kly’s (Get it? MDK + LYS??)
    2- AtLas’t
    3- MoDaLYS

    6- Jane Atlas Yarn+
