Today’s the day!

We embark now on our most specific knitalong ever, the New Ancestral Christmas Stocking knitalong.

We talked stockings today on Zoom—if you missed it, you’ll find the recording here.

Our special guest was our resident speed knitter, Allison Volek Shelton, who testified to the fact that she made three of these in about five seconds.

This two-week knitalong is fast and fun—we’re making the New Ancestral Christmas Stocking. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, scroll down for all the details about this charming pattern.

All the Details

This is the time of year to get the jump on holiday knitting. In particular, we’re zeroing in on one of MDK’s most-knitted designs, the New Ancestral Christmas Stocking.

Hundreds of these babies have found homes on mantels across the land.

New for 2022: Fun Colorways

The MDK team has been working hard to bring you the very latest in Christmas stocking style.

Our new kits for this cheerful project are flying out the door. The yarn? MDK Atlas in three brand-new colorways.

We’ve got Ruby, of course.

Rose.

And Spot. (Yes, these are MDK team pets who will be getting these stockings.)

The Kit

We love this kit, hope you do too. It includes the downloadable pattern PDF and four skeins of MDK Atlas, enough to make two stockings if you’re OK with using the colors in a different order for your second stocking. The pattern PDF (available separately too) includes the colorwork chart, the alphabet chart, and complete instructions.

We have a new topic cooking in the MDK Lounge, our online forum where the knitting is constant and the help is free flowing.

The knitalong will run through Sunday, September 4, which will mean you will have a completed Christmas stocking before Labor Day. Imagine that! Incredible!

Love,

Ann

  • Is it possible that this pattern could be made for a wearable sock?

    • Sure—it would be a totally new pattern, using a basic sock pattern and adding the color patterns to it.

  • I guess I was ahead of the knit along this time. Made 2 for my adult sons last Christmas. And I did them in true sox fashion – 2 at a time! A lot of fun.

  • I’m 69 years old and I have my Christmas stocking that my grandmother made for me and she made two beautiful stockings for my children. But since my daughter has two children, twins and I don’t know their names I am heartbroken that I won’t be able to knit anything for them. She was so close to me until she married the biggest jerk in the world and she hasn’t spoken since 2010.

    • That’s a lot of heartbreak for you and possibly for others in your family. I would be tempted to make stockings for the twins and just put designs where one might place the name. Your heart knows best what to do and I hope you find peace.

  • How do I let you know I have finished?
