Our Workshop Leader

A prolific knitwear designer, Fatimah Hinds loves to teach. For years, she was in the classroom with middle school math students. Now, she devotes her teaching skills to knitting and also to justice, equity, and anti-racism in the knitting world.

You’ll find Fatimah on Instagram @disturbingthefleece. She is a teacher in Season 7 of Knit Stars. And her designs—sweaters, accessories, and even more socks!—are available on DisturbingTheFleece.com and Ravelry.com.

What You’ll Need

  • DK weight yarn with wool content and multiple plies. (Please note that fingering-weight sock yarn is not used in this class or in this Field Guide.)

Inquiring Minds Want to Know

Is this class suitable for beginning knitters? You’ll want to have basic knitting in your skill set to take this class, but no previous sock knitting experience is needed. You will get the most out of the class if you are comfortable with basic knitting techniques, including: casting on, knitting, purling, basic increases and decreases, and knitting in the round.

How do I get the Zoom link?  Your order confirmation email will include a link to a PDF with the Zoom meeting link. We’ll also send reminder emails the week before and on the day of the workshop.

How should I get ready for the workshop? Gather the things you’ll need: your copy of Field Guide No: 27: Sock Odyssey, plus needles and yarn for your socks (see above). Also, come with your burning questions and be sure to have pen and paper handy for making notes.

What’s the format? With Fatimah’s instruction and an overhead camera focused on her hands, we’ll watch and swatch her favorite tips and tricks. Participant mics will be muted for instructional time but the chat box will be monitored constantly for questions from participants. The end of the class will be open for discussion time with Fatimah.

I can’t make it to the live Zoom class. May I still participate? Sure! Everyone enrolled in the workshop will receive a link to the recording for the workshop and all resources we share. The recording will be available for 4 weeks after the class ends.
