Exciting news! We cordially invite you to join us in Nashville in December.

One of our favorite artists and makers, Jan Quarles, is coming to MDK World Headquarters in Nashville for two days of in-depth workshops, December 9 and 10. Plus, join us for a festive evening of shopping the aisles of our warehouse just in time for the holidays.

We’re ecstatic to have this special time with Jan, where we’ll dive deep into the amazing techniques that Jan has honed throughout her years as an indigo artist.

The Weekend

Friday, December 8

2:00 pm-6:00 pm

The doors at MDK World Headquarters will open at 2:00 pm for all your shopping desires. Bring a friend—this is open to the public. We’ll have sips and bites for you while you wander the aisles and check off your shopping list.

Saturday, December 9

8:30 am

The doors at MDK World Headquarters will open at 8:30 am for a light breakfast and coffee. Feel free to grab a bite and introduce yourself to Jan!

Shibori Dyeing with Knitted Blanks

9:00 am-12:00 pm

Jan will regale us on the history of shibori as we learn how to tie, clip, and dip a knitted sock blank. Not a fan of sock knitting? Wear your finished piece as a cozy knitted cowl instead!

Katazome on Tea Towels

1:00 pm-4:00 pm

Jan will guide us through the Japanese technique of katazome in which we will use stencils and rice paste to make resist prints on  tea towels. We will work through how to use the stencils and what types of effects we can create. These will sit overnight and be ready to Indigo dip the following day.

All workshop materials and equipment will be provided. Keep in mind we’ll be working with dye and you may get dye on your hands and clothes. Dress accordingly! We’ll let you know if there is anything else you’ll need.

A catered lunch, light snacks, and drinks will be provided throughout the day.

Sunday, December 10

8:30 am

The doors at MDK World Headquarters will open at 8:30 am for a light breakfast and coffee. Fill up your cup and settle in for the finishing touches on your katazome projects.

Katazome on Tea Towels

9:00 am-1:00 pm

We will dip our katazome tea towels into the Indigo vats and wrap up the drying process on the knitted blanks.

Lodging

We’ve reserved a block of rooms at a special rate at the Moxy Hotel in Nashville’s lively and lovely Hillsboro Village neighborhood. A reservation code for the Moxy will be provided to all registrants. You’re free to stay anywhere, of course.
