The Project

We are beyond excited to be making be making Jeanette Sloan’s brand-new design, the Rae Beaded Scarf.

Rae is a glamorous scarf featuring pointed ends bejeweled with beaded floats that glimmer bright. The main body is worked in a subtle stripe providing texture and intrigue while the slip stitch edges at each side give the scarf a sleek finish. We know this scarf will be your favorite accessory this season and also makes the perfect gift!

In this 3 hour class we’ll explore all the skills you’ll need to make the Rae Beaded Scarf; from adding shine with beads to some intriguing techniques at each pointed end and lots of soothing rows in-between. You won’t be able to put this project down.

Materials

Yarn

The Rae Beaded Scarf takes approximately 210-250 yards of your favorite DK-weight yarn.

Our choice is MDK’s own DK weight wool yarn, Jane—you’ll need 2 skeins in the color of your choice. The swatches shown below are in MDK Jane; the blue sample scarf is in Jane in Bluebell.

Jeanette’s golden photography sample was made with Belinda Harris Reid Light Moonshine (DK) (70% alpaca, 20% silk, 10% cashmere; 225 m / 246 yds per 100 g), in the shade Zest.

Beads

You’ll also need glass beads, of course!  If you choose the class + bead option from the drop-down menu, you will receive enough glass beads to complete one Rae Scarf. For more scarves, you can purchase additional bead sets from the drop down menu.

If sourcing your own beads, you’ll need 240 size 6 clear glass beads. Jeanette’s photography sample used shade 34 from www.debbieabrahams.com.

Needles

1 set of US 4  (3.5 mm) circular needles with 16-inch (40 cm) cable, or size needed to achieve gauge.

Notions

Sewing needle and thread
Small amount of DK-weight waste yarn in a contrasting color
Blunt-tipped needle for sewing in ends

Skill Level

The Rae Beaded Scarf is an advanced beginner/intermediate level project; it’s accessible for anyone who can knit and purl with confidence. You’ll learn new techniques in class, but this little scarf also provides plenty of simple, soothing knitting.
