These mitts are a bit of a magic trick: simple rectangles of garter stitch are worked on the bias to create an intriguing slant-y fabric, then strategically seamed with a gap for the thumb. Voilà: mitts that anyone can make, and everyone will love.
Materials
Organic Studio Sock by Neighborhood Fiber Co. [4 oz (113 g) skeins, each approx 400 yds (366 m), 100% machine-washable organic merino]: 1 skein Thomas Circle (gray), Belair (lime), or Truxton Circle (purple)
Size US 3 (3.25 mm) needles, or size needed to achieve gauge
Removable stitch marker
Knitted Measurements
Hand Circumference: 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5)” [15 (16.5, 18, 19) cm]
Length: 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5)” [15 (16.5, 18, 19) cm]
Note: Pattern is adjustable to fit desired hand circumference, measured around the knuckles.
Gauge
24 sts and 24 rows = 4″ (10 cm) garter st (knit every row)
Notes
Mitts are worked in a square, folded in half and seamed, leaving opening for thumb.
