Dear knitter,

Happy Saturday!

Have you ever looked at beautiful beaded handknits and wondered, “How the heck do you do that?”

Well, we have a new class just for you! British designer Jeanette Sloan knows her way around beaded knitwear. She has created some of the most beautiful beaded pieces we’ve seen, and she’s a wonderful teacher.

Join us on October 24 for a virtual workshop with Jeanette, and make yourself a sparkling holiday accessory—Jeanette’s elegant Rae Beaded Scarf—while you’re at it.

You can get your beads and yarn from us, or you are welcome to supply your own materials.

For full details and to sign up, go here. (And yes—the class will be recorded!)

Make Short Work of Long Floats

Yesterday afternoon, we had a blast at Amy Snell’s mindblowing virtual workshop on the ladderback jacquard technique. In just two hours, while making a sweet little hat, we learned how to do it—and now we wonder how we ever did colorwork without it!

If you’re intrigued, you can still sign up, and get the class recording immediately here. Reminder: MDK Society members get 10% off all MDK events and in the MDK Shop with the MDK Society coupon code. Punch it in at checkout, and save!

Kate! Cecelia!

We’ve got two more really special events in September. Take a look—we’d love to see you.

Wednesday, September 17, 2025: For MDK Society members, it’s the Snippets Show, with special guest Kate Atherley, the pride of Toronto and one of the knitting world’s true wizards. Kate will be answering member questions and generally enlightening and inspiring us, followed by a happy half hour in which we stop recording, turn on everybody’s microphone, and gather in breakout rooms to chat with each other. As always, find the Zoom link on the MDK Society private page

Friday, September 26: Reversible Cables: Virtual Workshop with Cecelia Campochiaro. A few sumptuous Ito Yarn kits remain—or you can opt for the class pass only, and bring your own yarn for the versatile Wriley Shawl.

Meanwhile …

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Introducing: the Vendors of Nash Yarn Fest 2026. Big plans are afoot, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you to Nashville next April.

Sheep and wool and cider doughnuts—Clara Parkes on the best of fall festival season.

Circular knitting: Adrienne has a sweater that keeps making a round trip to Iceland

Could it be time for Ann to cull a 20-year accumulation of sweaters? Readers weigh in.

We followed the magical Jeni Hankins to an exhibit in Edinburgh on IKEA’s magical textiles

Any of them could have done it in the wonderfully crafted and intense sixth season of a favorite British cold-case drama

Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!

Seriously grateful that you hang out with us at MDK. In person, at virtual talks and workshops, and in our comments section—we love to connect knitters, and connect with knitters.

One way to support all that goes on here: the MDK Society. Your MDK Society membership will repay you in fun, connection, and community. (And 10% savings on classes and full-price stuff, plus special opportunities.)

Questions? Email us anytime at he***@*****************ng.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay
