Dear Knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

Have you been craving a delicious springtime knit? Do you love a scrumptious bundle as much as we do? Then you’re in luck, as we’ve just launched a new thing into the world: the Scout Shawl Bundle.

We’re bundling fools! Read all about it here, and preorder your bundle here.

Our Favorite Phrase: Back in Stock

Great news! We’re back in stock on the yarn bundles for Hélène Magnússon’s designs in Field Guide No. 26: Moss. Knitters have been so excited about these bundles that they cleared our shelves—check them out.

Meanwhile…

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Max Daniels showed us that togetherness is a totally free force multiplier—right here in the comments.

Weaving trees: we went with Jeni Hankins to a fascinating exhibit exploring the rich textile tradition of the Ainu, an indigenous people in northern Japan.

Knitting beats spring cleaning, every time.

DG Strong is whistling—and laughing—past a major home renovation.

A quick reminder: Every morning, we bring the best writers, teachers, and knitting to you, free of charge. This is only possible because of your purchases from the MDK Shop—thank you!

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a personal response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

Today’s the Day to Knit for Food

It’s happening right this minute: Knit for Food is a knit-a-thon that raises money to relieve hunger in our nation and world. We invite you to join us in supporting this inspiring and hugely successful worldwide effort, not just because it’s 12 hours of knitting—but hey: 12 hours of knitting! Read all about Knit for Food here.

Patchwork for Spring

The Scout Shawl is a cool idea, elegantly executed—and we haven’t been able to get it out of our minds. Florence Spurling combined two colorwork techniques: intarsia and stranded knitting, for a skill workout that’s exhilarating yet manageable in scope.

Reminiscent of quilts, stitch samplers, vintage rugs, and boho needlepoint cushions, the Scout Shawl is an opportunity for a knitter to be a total showoff. To strut, to preen, to pretend to be Dries Van Noten’s sister.

We’ve got a bundle for that! To create the Scout Shawl Bundle, we asked the artisan hand dyers at Madeline Tosh to recreate the palette of lush Tosh Merino Light shades that Florence Spurling chose for her photography sample for Scout Mini Shawl. The bundle has enough yardage to knit either the Scout Mini Shawl or its sumptuous big sister, the Scout Shawl.

The pattern is not included in this yarn bundle; it is sold separately on Ravelry.

The Final Countdown

We’re in the fourth quarter of  Bang Out a Sweater, the annual MDK extravaganza where we knit a whole sweater in a month, make new friends, and have an amazing time. The Crowberry Sweater flies so fast that we’ve already got finished sweaters in the MDK Lounge.

It’s not too late to get in on this wild, fun ride. Remember: banging out means whatever you want it to mean—there’s no time pressure.

All the details are here. Join us!

Need Support? During March, legendary teacher Lorilee Beltman is our fearless leader for three in-depth sessions on the making of the Crowberry Sweater. Whether it’s your first sweater or your twentieth, you’ll leave this class with tons of confidence and new skills. Sign up here. Some of the live sessions have taken place, but all of the class recordings will be available as a lasting resource for everyone who takes the class.

Thinking of using Léttlopi for your Crowberry Sweater? We love that idea! Here’s how to make the switch—plus some bomb colorway suggestions from MDK’s best color minds.

We Get Letters

For the Crowberry Sweater: “Such a beautiful sweater!!!! This is a doable, enjoyable pattern: the hem, the yoke, the cuffs, the details, the fit, more. Loved every stitch. Enjoy the knitalong, everyone!”

For the Bang Out a Sweater Virtual Workshop with Lorilee Beltman: “The best class I’ve ever taken.” Another class member rates it “5 stars.”

Hashtag #MDKluv: “Thank you for each post, each pattern, each how-to, each what to watch, recipe, explanation why things get wonky and where to travel and let’s not even forget about the gnome sensation you have kickstarted! MDK enhances my daily life.”

More Field Guide Greatness to Come

If you’re loving Field Guide No. 26: Moss, we’ve got great news: MDK will publish two more MDK Field Guides in 2024. Subscribing to the MDK Field Guides of 2024 is the best way to experience them, a truly VIP experience.

A Neat Journal for You

It’s always the right time of year to start a journaling practice. We heartily recommend the online course that made keeping a journal a joyful mainstay of our lives: Felicity Ford’s self-paced bullet journaling course. Use MDK’s affiliate link to enroll.

Earlier this year, we hosted a free Zoom mini-class with Felix. If you missed it, here’s the recording.

Need a journal? Get the Felix-approved bullet journal, the mighty Leuchtturm 1917, right here.
