Dear Knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

Can you feel the excitement?

Yesterday we dropped the rope on a favorite MDK tradition, Bang Out a Sweater. Our epic knit-a-whole-sweater-in-a-month extravaganza is back, starring the Crowberry Sweater by Hélène Magnússon. It’s a mad dash, and the most popular group event of the MDK year.

All the details are here. We’d love for you to join us. Despite the name, there’s no time pressure. Banging Out can be however you define it, but there will definitely be speedy finishers to light a fire under our needles …

Need Support? During March, legendary teacher Lorilee Beltman is leading three in-depth sessions on the making of the Crowberry Sweater. Lorilee is a dream of a teacher, and you’ll leave this class with tons of wisdom and new skills whether you’re a first-time sweater knitter or a veteran. Sign up here. The first class was yesterday, but the recordings are available indefinitely as a lasting resource for everyone who takes the class.

Live from Ireland: Carol Feller!

Here’s something fun. On Tuesday, March 12, at noon Eastern time, we’ll be zooming with Carol Feller, whose beautiful designs were the stars of MDK Field Guide No. 14: Refresh. If you’re hankering for a refreshing springtime knit, Carol’s designs for her yarn, Nua, are just the ticket. Sign up here for this free event, and we’ll email you the Zoom link on the day.

Meanwhile…

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Is it OK to knit just because we love it? Dana Williams-Johnson has thoughts (and beautiful knits) to share.

It’s not intarsia, and it’s not marling: it’s marl-tarsia! Thank goodness, Kate Atherley is here to explain it to us.

Samantha Brunson gave us a glimpse behind the scenes with Libby Tolm, creator of high-fashion knitwear for Oscar de la Renta.

Farewell to New York City’s eagle-owl hero.

The hat, the mac, the wheels—knitters can’t wait for a new season with an iconic British detective.

A quick reminder: Every morning, we bring the best writers, teachers, and knitting to you, free of charge. This is possible only because of your purchases from the MDK Shop—thank you!

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a personal response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

It’s a Love Story

The Love Story Shawl is a canvas for playing with color. The yarn, Love Story Einband, draws its glorious palette from the Icelandic landscape.

Hot News! The Love Story Shawl Bundle is BACK! The rarest of yarns, in an MDK-exclusive bundle for the airy shawl of our dreams. 5 balls in this dreamy bundle.

  • Excited to see Carol Feller coming up! Can you please confirm the time? Snippets says it begins at 1 pm Eastern, but the Google sign up page says noon. Thanks – I look forward to it!

    • The google sign-up defaulted to Nashville’s central time zone. It’s at 1 pm eastern.
