Dear knitter,

Welcome to your Saturday!

It’s MDK Gems time! In which we shine our sunniest beams on a special offer that pairs a special yarn with special designs, for triple the specialness.

This month’s yarn? Solemates. A bit of pure magic created by our friend Tina Whitmore of Freia Yarns. Solemates is a delectable 100% superwash merino, hand dyed in Tina’s inimitable washes of exquisite color. The yarn arrives at your home in two cakes, which makes it easy to knit a pair of gorgeous, color-shifting socks that match perfectly—no small feat!

What’s the Special Deal?

Order any quantity of Solemates, and we’ll include a free ebook download of Field Guide No. 11: Wanderlust, a $9.95 value. This is the classic book we use over and over for socks—toe up, cuff down, with 12 stitch patterns to add as you like. Endless socks come from this slim volume.

The color options are wonderful—and limited in quantity—so hop over now to find your color.

Ends Monday, July 24.

Meanwhile . . .

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Having lived all over the world, designer Olga Buraya-Kefelian has collected souvenirs that make her Portrait in Objects extra fascinating.

Life in plastic, it’s fantastic: Ann spent some time with her cherished Barbies

When Kay says “’tis the season,” everybody knows she’s talking about dishcloths, right?

You think you’ve seen it all, and then Carol Sulcoski writes about shepherds on stilts. For real.

Spend a little time knitting to conversations about the creative act—and the creative life—with Rick Rubin

Remember to enter this week’s giveaway by midnight Central time Sunday night. The prize: a skein of Neighborhood Fiber Co. Organic Studio Sock and a print copy of MDK Field Guide No. 11: Wanderlust, one of our own acts of creativity with sock designer Wendy Bernard.

As always, we thank you for supporting MDK. Every morning, we bring you the best writers, teachers, and designers we know. We share it for free, but good content is expensive, and your purchases in the MDK Shop are vital to making it all happen.

If you haven’t shopped with us yet, we urge you to support what you love, and have a great shopping experience while you’re at it. And if you have shopped with us, THANK YOU for keeping MDK going.

Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt personal response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay

Knit the Sei Cowl

Have you heard the news? In August, Olga Buraya-Kefelian will be leading a virtual workshop on her fabulous Sei Cowl. We’d love to have you with us for this very special experience.

Guided by Olga, one of the most engaging teachers we know, we’ll learn to make the Sei Cowl, a gorgeous project that opens up Olga’s world of graphic slipped-stitch patterns. You’ll leave the workshop inspired, holding the keys to a fascinating kingdom.

Like all MDK virtual workshops, this one will be deluxe, complete with a beautiful box of needfuls and want-fuls. We’ll gather on August 18, 2023, from noon-3 Eastern time, on Zoom.

Natalie in Nashville

Ann has been finishing her latest Alabama Chanin skirt, getting ready for our new August 11 sewing workshop in Nashville starring Natalie Chanin, the visionary founder of Alabama Chanin.

Come for a day of discovery, inspiration, and beauty. Natalie is a legend, and we’re lucky she’s coming to town. Details and registration here.

It’s a Chorus Line!

Nell Ziroli’s Shakerag Skirt is a singular sensation. It’s cool and comfortable in Rowan Creative Linen, and a quick knit, too. We counted at least 20 of them at the MDK Knitting Getaway at Shakerag Workshops.
