Dear Knitter,

Happy Saturday!

The great banging out has begun!

Yesterday was the first session of our Bang Out a Sweater: Waffle Pullover workshop with legendary knitting genius Lorilee Beltman, and it was—yes—a banger! Inspiration and determination are strong with this group, and the good humor is off the charts.

It’s not too late to join the fun! Our Bang Out a Sweater knitalong will continue until the end of February, and you can join us anytime before then. If speed is your thing, you’ll have a brand-new Waffle Pullover by February 28—or take your time and savor every stitch of this sweet sweater, there is no deadline, self-imposed or otherwise.

Read all about the knitalong here. Sign up for the three-part workshop with the great Lorilee Beltman here. When you sign up, you’ll receive a PDF with the Zoom link to upcoming workshop sessions, plus video recordings to previous sessions.

The yarn? Stashbust a DK-weight yarn, or have a look at our Jane. (We have swatches galore to show you color combos.)

MDK Society members: use your membership coupon code to save 10 percent on the workshop and your yarn. And be sure to come hang out in the MDK Society Lounge, where the Bang Out conversation is on!

Meanwhile…

We had a big time on MDK this week.

From Jeni Hankins, a fascinating art collaboration that makes connections between knitting and sound and…birds? Bonus: something fun to do with all those gauge squares, from UK-based artist Lorna Hamilton-Brown.

Speaking of swatches, while Ann hunkered down in Nashville’s nervewracking ice storm, she contributed three new color pairings to the great Waffle Swatch Jukebox.

Every portrait in this post is made from yarn. Samantha Brunson took us with her to a gallery exhibition of amazing work by Kandy G Lopez.

Barbara G. Walker has died at age 95, but oh what a legacy, in knitting and beyond. We include a gift link to her New York Times obituary, and invite you to join knitters’ remembrances in the comments.

It started on a chat board, and the yapping never stopped: Kay and Ann dished the deep MDK lore, on the Craft Industry Alliance podcast. Thanks for having us, Abby!

Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!

Every day, we see readers engaging with each other on MDK, and with the writers who bring us their expertise and point of view. It makes our day to see these connections happening. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your interest in what’s going on here at MDK.

Questions? Email us anytime at he***@*****************ng.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay
