You’ve Got Snippets: January 17, 2026

Dear knitter,
Happy Saturday!
Remember the day your swimming teacher got you to jump into the pool?
Yesterday’s virtual steeking class had us on the edge of our seats, scissors in hand, while the cool-headed Michele Bernstein talked us through our first steeks.
It’s one of the great techniques: steeking allows stranded colorwork to be done in the round, avoiding seams, and is traditionally used with wools that felt. Cutting up a column of stitches creates arm and neck openings, or the front of a cardigan. It is magic, and it’s easier than you may think.
The recorded class is available through Monday if you’re suddenly feeling curious and brave and ready to jump in. Michele is an absolute ace at explaining it all. Details are here.
The Banging Out Begins Jan. 30
The most popular knitalong of the MDK year, Bang Out a Sweater, starts on January 30. If speed is your thing, you’ll have a brand-new Waffle Pullover by February 28—or take your time and savor every stitch of this sweet ride of a pattern.
Read all about the knitalong here. Sign up for the three-part workshop with the great Lorilee Beltman here. The yarn? Stashbust a DK-weight yarn, or have a look at our Jane. (We have swatches galore to show you color combos.)
MDK Society members: use your membership coupon code to save 10 percent on the workshop and your yarn. And be sure to come hang out in the MDK Society Lounge, where the Bang Out conversation is on!
Earlybird Price: Extended
It’s true: we’ve extended earlybird pricing on the MDK Society until the end of January.
Join the MDK Society now so you can enjoy the special guests coming to The Snippets Show in the new year. On January 21 (next week!) we’ll welcome Joji Locatelli. February 25: Stephen West! And so much more fun to come in 2026. Read about all the benefits of membership, and sign up here. Thank you so much for your support.
Meanwhile…
We had a big time on MDK this week.
In an effort worthy of the Romans, Kay is swatching color combinations for the Bang Out a Sweater design, Amy Christoffers’s Waffle Pullover. She’s not stopping anytime soon.
We announced our latest Nash Yarn Fest news: our all-star slate of speakers who will be entertaining us.
Clara Parkes gives us the 2026 cake of our dreams.
And Max Daniels reminds us to pick our word of the year, a powerful tool.
A big MDK welcome to Ellen Kanner, who sets us up with a lush ragout recipe for wintry days.
Mystery connoisseur Adrienne points us to Daniel Craig, a new sleuth to love in the Knives Out movies.
Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!
Every day, we see readers engaging with each other on MDK, and with the writers who bring us their expertise and point of view. It makes our day to see these connections happening. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your interest in what’s going on here at MDK.
Questions? Email us anytime at he***@*****************ng.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.
Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.
Love,
Ann and Kay
