You’ve Got Snippets: August 30, 2025

Dear knitter,
Happy Saturday! And a restful Labor Day weekend to all who celebrate.
It’s coming up fast: on September 12, a virtual workshop on ladderback jacquard with a leading champion of the technique, Amy Snell. In just two hours, while making a sweet little hat, you’ll learn how to do it—and you’ll wonder how you ever did colorwork without it.
Knowing the ladderback jacquard technique changes everything. Suddenly, projects with widely spaced, non-repeating, or asymmetrical colorwork motifs are easy and intuitive to work.
Read all about it and sign up here. MDK Society members save 10% with the Society coupon code. And a video recording goes out afterward in case you need to watch later.
But Wait, There’s More
We’ve got three really special events to put on your calendar next month. Take a look, and join us for all of it or some of it—we’d love to see you.
Wednesday, September 17, 2025: For MDK Society members, it’s the Snippets Show, with special guest Kate Atherley, the pride of Toronto and one of the knitting world’s true wizards. Kate will be answering member questions and generally enlightening and inspiring us, followed by a happy half hour in which we stop recording, turn on everybody’s microphone, and gather in break-out rooms to chat with each other. As always, find the Zoom link on the MDK Society private page.
Friday, September 26: Reversible Cables: Virtual Workshop with Cecelia Campochiaro. A few sumptuous Ito yarn kits remain—or you can opt for the class pass only, and bring your own yarn for the versatile Wriley Shawl.
Saturday, October 4: Kaffe Fassett is coming to Nashville! We’re planning a flat-out party to celebrate Kaffe’s visit to MDK World Headquarters. Make your plans now to join us for a very special gathering. Join us in Nashville for the in-person celebration, or tune in to a professionally produced livestream of his talk. Inspiration galore for us all, near or far.
Tickets for the in-person event here. Tickets for the livestream here.
Reminder: MDK Society members get 10% off all MDK events and in the MDK Shop with the MDK Society coupon code. Punch it in at checkout, and save!
Meanwhile…
We had a big time on MDK this week.
A mighty mill tour, indeed: Jillian Moreno took us with her to visit New Hampshire’s historic Harrisville Designs. (Yes, there is swatching. This is Jillian we’re talking about.)
For Samantha Brunson’s emotional support lapghan project, it’s not about getting in as many rows as possible, it’s about getting in as many rows as needed.
Thanks to Sarah Ross, even if your mom was not a caterer in the 1980s you can make this easy, party-pleasing classic.
This tariff thing is a mess—for yarn makers and creators around the world and for the knitters who love and depend upon their wares. MDK reader comments are, as ever, insightful and thought-provoking.
Do you have a special summer side craft? Kay enjoyed the heck out of hers this year.
Knit to this: everything from Icelandic hot dog stands to sports rivalries to diseases and back again, in a really great podcast.
Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!
Seriously grateful that you hang out with us at MDK. In person, at virtual talks and workshops, and in our comments section—we love to connect knitters, and connect with knitters.
One way to support all that goes on here: the MDK Society. Your MDK Society membership will repay you in fun, connection, and community. (And 10% savings on classes and full-price stuff, plus special opportunities.)
Questions? Email us anytime at he***@*****************ng.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.
Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.
Love,
Ann and Kay
