Dear knitter,

Happy Saturday!

The long-awaited day finally arrived. Yesterday afternoon we sat upon our virtual sit-upons in the virtual MDK Summer Camp Craft Hut, and had a ball.

Our camp counselor? Anna Hrachovec, creator of the beguiling miniature world known as Mochimochi Land. Anna’s motto is “Let’s make happy”—and boy did we ever.

If you missed it, guess what—you didn’t! We’ve still got a few adorable camp kits, which come with everything you need to make three tiny dogs, plus tiny dog stickers, plus the official souvenir patch for MDK Summer Camp 2025.

Sign up here, and we’ll get your kit in the mail to you right away. Your order confirmation email will include a PDF with the link to the video recording, to watch and rewatch at your convenience, for as long as you like.

Announcing: A Ladderback Jacquard Workshop!

When it comes to ease of working stranded colorwork and intarsia, the ladderback jacquard technique changes everything.

Suddenly,  projects with widely-spaced, non-repeating, or asymmetrical colorwork motifs (we’re looking at you, Junko Okamoto’s Bouquet Sweater) are easy and intuitive to work. And the resulting knitted fabric is smooth—no holes! no color peek-through!—and stretchy.

Join us on September 12, for a virtual workshop with one of ladderback’s leading practitioners and champions, Amy Snell. In just two hours, while making a darling hat, you’ll learn how to do it—and you’ll wonder how you ever did colorwork without it.

Read all about it and sign up here.

But Wait, There’s More

We’ve got more fun lined up for the weeks ahead. Take a look, and join us for all of it or some of it—we’d love to see you.

Wednesday, August 20: For MDK Society members. The Snippets Show with special guest Jillian Moreno, who knows an astonishing amount about yarn, fiber, spinning. Bring your yarn substitution questions, and be ready to laugh and learn.

Friday, September 26: Reversible Cables: Virtual Workshop with Cecelia Campochiaro. The optional kit of Ito yarns is sumptuous—and flying off the shelves.

Saturday, October 4:  Kaffe Fassett is coming to MDK in Nashville! Kaffe will be giving a talk: An Eye for Color. Join us in Nashville for the in-person celebration, or tune in to a professionally produced livestream of his talk. Either way, your inspiration and color confidence will soar.

Tickets for the in-person event here. Tickets for the livestream here.

Reminder: MDK Society members get 10% off all MDK events and in the MDK Shop with the MDK Society coupon code. Punch it in at checkout, and save!

Meanwhile…

We had a big time on MDK this week.

Heads up! It’s time to register for next June’s Knitting Getaway at Shakerag Workshops in Sewanee, Tennessee. This joyful gathering of knitters is one of the brightest spots in our year, and we’d love to have you with us on the mountain in 2026. All the details are here

Sure she’s a bestselling author, but how’s her dishrag-knitting game? A beautiful piece from beloved writer Ann Hood

Clara Parkes has three words for us: Wool. Bathing. Suit.

Self-care—in this economy? Max Daniels untangles sense from nonsense, and wants to know what you think about it, too.

Brad and Shelley came to town, and Ann and Kay got to preach and teach a big love of their life: log cabin knitting.

You may be right, he may be crazy. Kay recommends the new Billy Joel documentary

Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!

Seriously grateful that you hang out with us at MDK. In person, at virtual talks and workshops, and in our comments section—we love to connect knitters, and connect with knitters.

One way to support all that goes on here: the MDK Society. Your MDK Society membership will repay you in fun, connection, and community. (And 10% savings on classes and full-price stuff, plus special opportunities.)

Questions? Email us anytime at he***@*****************ng.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.

Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.

Love,

Ann and Kay
