Dear Ann,

Running the MDK Shop is fun, with high drama, math-y bits, and a fair amount of hemming and hawing when it’s time to choose: this one, or that one?

The best part? When we see something and we know. I know that you’ll love it. You know that I’ll love it. It’s Just The Thing. It’s a tingly moment of pure delight.

We had one of those moments on a concrete convention floor in Cleveland last June, at the TNNA yarn show. We rolled up in the Shibui booth, and saw someone waving around a long rectangular wrap that was elegant and simple and so, so swingy. She tossed one end of it over her shoulder, and we both went, oooh: We want that.

What Was That?

It was Lucinda Iglesias’s design, the Medley Wrap, in Shibui’s new yarn, Silk Cloud Tweed.

If there’s anything we love more than the word “tweed,” it’s Silk Cloud, Shibui’s shimmering blend of kid mohair and silk.

rich, tweedy colors that look good on everyone, and on model Beverly Army in particular.

As the name implies, Tweed Silk Cloud adds more silk, for its rustic, nubbly character, to the full-on luxury of kid mohair, so you can wear it every day, everywhere, with everything. Double-dog dare you to come up with an outfit that won’t be improved by this wrap, whether you swoop it around the shoulders like a shawl, or coil it Frenchily around your neck.

Up close: suave texture for days. If an accessory can be life-changing, this one is.

Our kit includes seven skeins of Tweed Silk Cloud—one skein each of seven colors that we chose for maximum go-with-everything and make-everything-betterness—and a print copy of the Medley Wrap pattern by Lucinda Iglesias.

It’s pure simplicity to knit, and simply stunning to wear every day.

I call dibs on the photography sample.

Love,

Kay

  • That is a stunning piece. Is it possible to buy just the yarn? I’m not much of a wrap gal, but that misty gray and intense purple are calling my name.

  • I would like a post on just how to tie or wrap scarves like that and other ways as that talent eludes me.

    • Ditto what Glynis said! Shawls, scarves, wraps…I don’t have a clue:(

  • That wrap is so beautiful ❤️ And… So is the model’s hair. I love it!

    • Awww, thank you!

  • I thought the photographer might get dibs, just sayin’ ;p
It really is a fabulous and go-with-everything piece.

    • The photographer should definitely get dibs

    • It’s SUCH a fabulous piece!! Photographer and model could share custody!

  • Beautiful! This goes in my lineup of WIPS right now. Or after I feed the cat.

  • I really love Shibui yarns— beautiful fibers and lovely simplicity. I just wish they’d offer a green that isn’t acid yellow-green.

Love the simplicity of this wrap, too. But I’ve learned to be leery of miles of stockinette or garter…as a slow knitter I end up bored by the project even though the results would be lovely.

  • Gosh I loved modeling that wrap! I can’t wait to knit one of my own!

    • I just clicked over so I could comment on how great it is to see you modeling this wrap, Beverly! Made me so happy when I saw your photo in my inbox this morning! (And the wrap isn’t bad, either!)

    • You did a fabulous job too. You’re a beautiful lady modelling a beautiful piece of knitwear, a great combination!

      • Awww, thank you!

  • Individually those colors are very lovely.

  • Wow! What a great story. Thanks for sharing. I love my medley wrap and wear it often.
