You’ve Got Snippets: May 17, 2025

Dear knitter,
Happy Saturday!
We’re ringing the new class bell, and you, beloved Snippets readers, are the first to know.
Are you an English-style knitter who’s continental-curious? On June 27, the legendary Lorilee Beltman will bring us an in-depth three-hour workshop on continental knitting.
If—like Ann and Kay—you were raised to be a right-handed thrower but have always wanted to know the secrets of holding the yarn in the left hand and “picking” your stitches, this is the workshop for you.
With Lorilee’s expert guidance, we’ll stretch our minds—and our muscle memory—to learn a style of knitting that many knitters find faster, and may also be a more efficient way of working stitch patterns that switch frequently from knit to purl.

Meanwhile…
We had a big time on MDK this week.
Don’t try this at home (without Patty Lyons): cutting your knitting—so you can add more knitting!
Humanity’s big breakthrough wasn’t the wheel—it was the needle. That’s the thesis of a stupendous exhibit brought to us by Jeni Hankins.
Embrace a good-enough solution—and then embrace it a thousand more times. Max Daniels says less dithering = more time for knitting and every other pleasant thing.
Knitting is forever. In her postcard from a trade show, Ann reflects on a beloved industry that is shaken by the times.
What was your most epic knitting mistake (so far)? MDK readers tell all.
Looking for a good long series to knit to? Adrienne recommends the first 15 episodes of The Pitt.
Your Support Is Everything—Thank You!
At MDK, making knitters happy is Job One. Good things take dedication and resources. If you love your Saturday Snippets and your daily dose of knitting knowledge and inspiration, it’s vital—and easy—to support MDK.
One great way, of course: join the MDK Society. Your MDK Society membership will repay you in fun, connection, and community.
Whenever you shop with MDK, sign up for a workshop, or share our content with others, you’re directly supporting the yarnmakers, artisans, teachers, and writers that we feature here. Thank you!
Questions? Email us anytime at hello@moderndailyknitting.com, and you’ll get a prompt response from a real live MDK person.
Stay healthy, take care of each other, and knit on.
Love,
Ann and Kay
PS Believe it or not, there are knitters who don’t know about MDK!
Please forward this Snippets to a knitter friend—we appreciate it so much.
