Our resident Experimenter In Chief just shared an idea that’s got me all WHOA.

Cristina has been busily cooking up marls, aiming for a cushion of squares adapted from the Color Explosion Throw.

She’s using our bundle of Kaffe Fassett-curated Felted Tweed colors, and we’re pretty smitten with her freestylin’ ways. See?

Her strips here are one square wide, rather than the three called for with the throw. This allows for a lot of quick-change fun on color combinations.

Marling Fans, This Is for You!

All of us who are now Properly Into Marling now view any batch of colors as a potential palette for marling.

Close readers of MDK know that we offer a bunch of Felted Tweed bundles at a savings of 10 percent off the single-ball price. The original purpose of these bundles was to pair with the projects in Field Guide No. 13: Master Class and Field Guide No. 16: Painterly.

However.

These bundles make for truly scrumptious marling. The colors were all curated by Kaffe Fassett, a guy who knows his way around a palette.

Here’s what we’ve got in the Shop right now. The quantity of yarn in these bundles is bounteous, ranging from a dozen balls to 21 to the stupendous 30-ball carnival that is the Stranded Stripe Throw Bundle.

We can’t parse out exactly how much marling you can do with these bundles, but know that there’s a lot of yarn in them.

  • Yowser! That Village Scarf bundle! Why did that never catch my eye until today? Must be because it’s so gloomy out this morning. The royal blue, the reds

  • That pillow idea is brilliant!! My throw, (strip one has been more fun than imaginable) will have a buddy or two on the sofa. And for some more immediate pillowing, time to experiment with some holiday colors!
