This weekend, there’s a ding-dang double whammy of things I’m looking forward to. It’s only Saturday, and these just popped up on Friday, so I honestly have no idea whether they’ll turn out to be good or not but look: it’s the beginning of August and it’s either this or Big Brother. I’ll take my chances.
First up is Yola’s new record, Stand for Myself. It’s only been two years since her Walk Through Fire—an album I still listen to on a regular basis—so I’m super-jazzed up to hear a new set from her. Two or three songs from it are already out in the world, and it looks like I won’t be disappointed.
Second up is The Pursuit of Love, the BBC/Amazon adaptation of Nancy Mitford’s novel. At this point in my life, I feel like there are three hundred Mitford-related things I was supposed to keep up with (six is a lot of Mitford sisters) and I have failed miserably. But this series seems like the sort of thing people might Talk About in that Downton Abbey way so I gotta keep modern and watch it all in one sitting, even though I am firmly anti-binging these days. You’ll hear my tirade about THAT in a future installment!
Anyway: Yola! Nancy Mitford! Get all that done and then report back here with your writeups. Tally-ho, y’all!
