Usually our Sunday video recommendations are a little longer than this one.
Earlier this week, Gaye Glasspie aka GGMadeIt, the empress of orange yarn, posted a Procter and Gamble commercial called “The Look.” You can watch it, linked above, in one minute and 43 seconds.
For a white viewer, The Look is a breathtaking leap of empathy into the experience of being a black person, in this case a black man, in the world. If you’re white, your first reaction may be, “I don’t do that,” or “my city is not like that.” Then you sit with it a while, and recognize that it’s in you, it’s in your town, it’s in your friends and neighbors and coworkers.
There is more information about The Look on the Proctor and Gamble website, and Ad Age has a piece about the conversation that led to the making of The Look.
