Gale Zucker

Photographer · Branford, Connecticut

Empathetic is one of the words that comes to mind when thinking about Gale Zucker and her approach to photography. With a degree in photojournalism from the University of Minnesota, she has made a career of capturing the humanity and humor in the people and places that are her subjects.

She has taken her eye and her point of view across the country, working not only in the knitting world but in the corporate realm as well.

Intrepid is another word to describe Gale’s approach. She has traveled on assignment to locations all over the place, hunkering down in a sheep farm, a boardroom, or a shack in the Tennessee woods to get her shot. Her good humor and even keel make her a joy to work with. Our own experience with Gale, photographing our second book, Mason-Dixon Knitting: Outside the Lines, showed us up close exactly how brilliant she is at keeping a complex photo shoot moving. Herding cats is easier work.

Among her endless credits are her books: photographer/co-author with Joan Tapper of Shear Spirit and Craft Activism. Her latest project is Drop-Dead Easy Knits, with co-authors Mary Lou Egan and Kirsten Kapur. Her clients include yarn companies, magazines, book publishers, knitwear designers and artisanal clothing manufacturers. Her publication credits include everything from Vogue Knitting  and The New York Times to Forbes, Woman’s Day, and TV Guide.
