Sommerfeld Shawl Kit

By Neighborhood Fiber Co., Ann Weaver

Four small skeins of gorgeous yarn become a breathtaking swath of color and pattern.

Ann Weaver’s Sommerfeld Shawl is a bit of a butterfly—the cocoons of this Neighborhood Fiber Co. Loft yarn transform as you knit, with fantastic, surprising results.

The intensely saturated color looks so bright in the skein, right? Well, the color lightens, softens, evaporates into an airy shawl. It’s log cabin knitting as you’ve never seen it before.

Please note: pattern not included. The Sommerfeld Shawl pattern for this kit appears in MDK Field Guide No. 4, available in both digital and print versions. Be sure to add a copy of Field Guide No. 4 to your basket at checkout!

The endless invention of Ann Weaver’s imagination is such a delight here.

The Sommerfeld Shawl uses the very basic techniques of log cabin knitting—knit a patch, bind off, add another patch. But the effect is striking when you switch up the yarn to this laceweight silk/mohair blend.

When you throw in short rows, feather and fan pattern, and patches of all proportions, this rectangle of filmy yarn becomes something truly extraordinary. We’re crazy for Ann’s pattern, and we’re crazy for Karida Collins’s Loft yarn.

The perfect match of pattern and yarn: it’s what we love to discover.

Please note: pattern not included. The Sommerfeld Shawl pattern for this kit appears in MDK Field Guide No. 4, available in both digital and print versions. Be sure to add a copy of Field Guide No. 4 to your basket at checkout!
