Ninepatch Blanket Kit
With the Ninepatch Blanket, a traditional quilt pattern becomes something modern and surprising. Combining mitered squares with a basic log cabin pattern, this jigsaw puzzle of a blanket celebrates texture, color, and knitting fun.
Ultra Alpaca has long been a favorite of ours. We sometimes refer to Ultra Alpaca as a workhorse yarn because of its affordable price and practical blend of 50% super fine alpaca and 50% wool. But in truth, it’s a luxury yarn, with beautiful drape and incredible depth of color.
Please note: pattern not included. The Ninepatch Blanket pattern for this kit appears in Mason-Dixon Knitting Field Guide No. 4, available in both digital and print versions. Be sure to add a copy of Field Guide No. 4 to your basket at checkout!

More than a decade ago, when Kay was introduced to the gartery joys of log cabin knitting, the first thing she did was to copy a fabric quilt. Our Ninepatch Blanket is the latest in the long line of colorful, playful log cabin knitting projects that followed that first blanket.
Believe it or not, all the blocks in this blanket are constructed in the same way, freeing up the knitter to simply enjoy the ride. You can use the detailed chart to place colors exactly as we did for the photography samples. You can jumble your colors up in a bag and pull them out at random for each square. Or you can do it according to your own eye. No matter how you do it, you will end up with a modern masterpiece that harkens back to old-fashioned patchwork quilts.
