Milo
We are nuts for Milo, a blend of 65% merino and 35% linen. It knits to a relatively small gauge to create a fabric that is light, soft, and slightly crisp, thanks to the linen. And the colors! We’d like a sweater in every one of these shades.
Ever on the prowl for the perfect pairing of yarn and pattern, we bring you a match clearly made in heaven: Manos del Uruguay’s Milo yarn and Joji Locatelli’s Granito pullover.
Granito is one of the big favorites from our MDK March Mayhem pattern championship.
It takes three to six skeins of Milo to make Granito—see the details and buy a copy of the pattern from the fabulous Ms. Locatelli right here.
Looking for another great pattern written especially for Milo? Amanda Bell’s Avila Tee is an elegant option to consider. And Bristol Ivy’s Harjo Shawl is great.
Thanks to Joji Locatelli for her Granito photographs.

Joji Locatelli has an unerring ability to design patterns we want to make—there is a reason she is one of the knitting world’s shining stars. Granito has so many of the things we crave in a pullover: a flattering silhouette, a light weight, and knitting fun along the way including—yes—pockets.
This merino/linen yarn has completely bewitched us. It’s a single-ply yarn, so it has a slightly rustic feel due to the linen fibers entwined with the soft merino. We think it’s completely gorgeous.
Milo is made by one of the yarnmakers we admire the most, Manos del Uruguay. It’s kind of incredible, really—since 1968, Manos del Uruguay has provided jobs to women in the rural towns of Uruguay, dyeing yarns by hand. Each tag carries the handwritten name of the woman who dyed it, and the town where it was made. We feel a connection to these distant women every time we work with this yarn. It may sound corny, but it’s true: Manos del Uruguay has brought the wide world of knitters and yarnmakers just a little bit closer together.
