Bloom Handmade Tape Measure
Carolyn Bloom’s beautiful crochet makes a tape measure into a handmade special thing. Scroll down for the story of how we discovered these tape measures.
Specs & Details
When Kay stepped up to maker/photographer/designer Carolyn Bloom’s table at a local craft fair, she was drawn like a magnet to a basket of tape measures, each blanketed in a cozy that Carolyn had crocheted using hand-dyed yarn.
One thing led to another, and before long Carolyn was cranking out be-cozied tape measures for the MDK Holiday Shop. (Could there be a nicer stocking stuffer for a knitter? No there could not.)
Practical details: the tape measure inside the cozy is top quality, a Rollfix by Hoechstmass. This retractable roller tape measure is long lasting and reliable, with a patented automatic stop-go mechanism. Its polyfiber tape is white with black text, and housed in a sturdy plastic case. The tape measures 60 inches on one side and 150 centimeters on the other.
The Color Choices
For the photos, we flipped the tape measures to show both sides. There are two color choices:
Gray-Pumpkin is light gray on one side, dark gray on the other, joined with a stripe of orange.
Jamberry-Patio is pinkish red on one side and pale swimming-pool blue on the other side.
And because we know you want to know: the yarn that Carolyn used to crochet the cozies is our beloved Backyard Fiberworks Sock.
