Backyard Fiberworks Sock
From the colorful mind of Alice O’Reilly come sixteen shades that are exclusive to MDK. This clever hand dyer currently located in the DC area is laying down some of the loveliest, saturated shades we’ve seen in a while. She tweaked and fussed over these shades until she arrived at a range that is at once vibrant and subtle.
Alice does her dyeing as close to her backyard as possible, though—full disclosure—we cannot guarantee that she in fact dyes all her yarn in her backyard. There may be some climate control involved in her process. There may be traces of air conditioning in this yarn.

We love them all. This is hand dyeing at its most subtle and sophisticated.
We met Alice O’Reilly last year, as she presided over a booth of yarns that were rapidly disappearing at the Indie Untangled show that takes place the weekend of the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. She was pretty cool about the frantic scene going on around her, and she didn’t seem too upset that knitters were clearing out her wares.
Fingering weight yarn provides such an open horizon of things to make. Shawls, scarves, cowls, mittens, sweaters. A batch of one glorious color, or mix and match these shades to vibrant effect. We’re spending a significant amount of time staring at this yarn, scheming up what we want to make. We hope you’ll find it distracting, too.
