I’m in heaven. My imaginary friends and relations from Jerusalem’s Ultra Orthodox community are back for another season of funny, tender, and intense family drama.
The family is called Shtisel, and so is the series. I’m two episodes into the third season. The first episode delivered a plot twist that knocked me back (but on reflection, maybe shouldn’t have), and so far every character is as irascible and searching and unpredictable as in the first two seasons.
Take it from me: Even if you have no connection to, or familiarity with, Israel, Jerusalem, or Judaism, these characters and their stories will grab you.
And you might learn a little Yiddish along the way.
Please watch it so we can talk about it.
