Fatimah Hinds

Vancouver, BC

Fatimah Hinds is the mind and hands behind Disturbing the Fleece. She is a newly relocated Vancouver-based knitwear designer, custom maker, and fiber artist. Her carefully nurtured IG community consists of lifelong learners who love knitting and color as well as learning more about issues of diversity and inclusion. She strives to create a space safe for all marginalized identities.

Fatimah has been designing knit garments and accessories for 10+ years including contributing to publications such as Radicle Threads, Vogue, and Interweave Knits. She taught middle school math and science for nine years before transitioning to designing and creating full time.

Fatimah creates finished pieces that are intentionally one-of-a-kind including custom works, writes patterns that are gender-inclusive, and continues to grow her size range with all patterns being at least 50″ chest circumference and several 60+,” and, finally, she writes and speaks on topics of race and justice in the hopes of lightening the load for other marginalized people and improving the community at large.

Fatimah is a queer, married mom of two teens, and a cat owner. When her hands aren’t holding fiber, they’re holding a small-batch gin-and-tonic or a video game controller.

Find her on InstagramRavelry, and her website Disturbingthefleece.com.
