When DG announced he was too busy prepping subscribers’ copies of Field Guide No. 20 (they started shipping on Friday!) to write an Atlas Insider this week, I figured the time was right to take you inside Slack at MDK.
It’s not all business. Like most groups that host that workplace trainwreck collaboration hub, we have a channel to share #petz pictures for happy-making distraction.
And then there’s #mdkluv. That’s where we share your comments on articles, social media comments, customer service emails, and even the occasional postcards you send to let us know we’re on the right track inspiring and supporting you, and celebrating knitting.
We put a small selection of these comforting messages on pillows for you. They’re not exactly bargello stitch heirlooms, but you get the point. Thank you.

I do love the daily updates
I love the daily post! It laugh and learn and love belonging to a common passionate knitters and great human beings.
Not only is there fun in every box, but there’s learning in every day’s post. For example, after learning that Kaffe Fasset did not weave in ends, he just (gasp) ties a knot (!!), I decided that perhaps “weaving in ends” was just a suggestion. Not an actual knitting rule. So my pillow would read “knit like a Kaffe-man”. Which to me means: have fun, make it pretty, when in doubt add another color, and it’s ok to keep a secret on the inside!
I look forward to my Saturday snippets. Thank you, it really brings me joy.

I rediscovered crochet 6 years ago, quickly followed it with learning to knit, and haven’t looked back. Every year I choose some new technique to learn instead of a resolution. Since I have discovered MDK, this has become my go to for techniques and inspiration, quickly replacing all others.

I first met Kay in nyc at a workshop she hosted in a tiny yarn shop , lower east side? I can’t remember. As my daughter Jen and I arrived and settled in at the table,I must have said something about never meeting or being a fan girl or something along those lines and Kay said ‘Now we have met and we are friends.’ I always remembered that and it has been followed up by true acts of friendship. Which matters.

I’ve been knitting for about 56 years…without MDK and my wonderful local knitting shop, knitting is a solitary thing. I love how communities have developed over the years and that there are places to celebrate our love of great fiber and fabulous knitting…even if it’s just a dishcloth! First thing in the morning – before my coffee even, I read Mason-Dixon Knitting. Always a good start to my day. And your “knit to this” recommendations are perfect! I recommend them, even to my non-knitting friends.
I just love your newsletters and your shop but…one thing I think you should offer is a smaller tote. A tote that can carry a small project like socks or a scarf, cowl or even a small shawl but is made so that it will stand up alone so that the yarn balls or cakes don’t hop or roll out. Kind of like a travelling yarn bowl but better than a yarn bowl because yarn hops out of those too. I hope you know what I mean because I have been searching for this item for a long time. Also it should be in a fabric or color that doesn’t show dirt especially on the bottom for those of us who like to knit outside & might sit our bag on the grass or ground. Thanks for listening!
I second this request – and would add: pocket(s) on the inside would be helpful too – a place for needles, notions or a notepad, etc.

I bought the first MDK book and am still making dish cloths. The pattern is soothing and I’m always delighted to see how the colors come together. That was my first MDK pattern but not my last. But probably my favorite! Thank you for letting me become a member of a community as I knit at home.

I have loved MDK since The Curious Knitter’s Guide caught my eye oh way back when. I haven’t blinked yet, still following every post, word, picture… I just taught my office mate to knit and she made the Baby Kimono as her first project. I’ve been knitting since I was a literal toddler, and guess what? If I could only access one source for the rest of my life I wouldn’t even have to think about it. MDK all the way!

I don’t know why everyone doesn’t subscribe to your Field Guides. It’s like getting a birthday card with goodies tucked in from your best friend 3 times a year.
I love the variety of content you bring to this blog, and the intentionality of the items you curate for your shop. I feel like this site is the knitters version of Some Good News!
The joy of the orange paper and little surprises like bookmarks and post cards in MDK packages are so much fun!
I read the daily letter before work during the week to start my day off on a high note before life interferes!

My morning routine – since I discovered MDK about 3 years ago – has been to grab my cup of coffee (coffee machine is on a timer, preset the night before) and my cellphone, go back to bed and look for MDK email. Just love it. It makes me feel part of a community. And on the very few occasions that I did not get the email, I feel a big void, at a loss.
I love the community, humor, teaching and inspiration of fellow knitters.

Perhaps more accurately, all of us everywhere. And not just for big moments like the weekend trifecta of new yarn, a new subscriber field guide preview, and a new season of Mrs. Maisel, but also for the everyday moments of sharing. For the times when I have though, I’ll read that book, make the recipe, watch that show, listen to that podcast…travel to Paris. And, as always for the invaluable tips and tricks that have made my knitting so much nicer.
Love to read it first thing in the morning! So hard to not buy everything!!!

So hard to decide which is my favorite color, they are all very lovely. But I will choose Whisper, I love its pinky-purpley whisper of a shade. I tend to prefer pastels and this is so very pretty; it is just yearning to be knit into something divine!

I love my field guides, but this is the first time I’ve subscribed. When my copy arrived with the Atlas sample, I was so happy. The yarn is so soft! I immediately ordered enough to make the sweater. I know I am going to live in that sweater. And this is the year I vowed not to buy new yarn so I could use up some of my stash. I didn’t expect to fall off the band wagon so soon. I can’t wait to start knitting! Thanks for creating such beautiful products!

I’ve been a subscriber for quite a while and have looked forward each day for the letters, patterns, new yarns and yarn bundles and all the rest. I check the store a couple of times a week and have to have a long talk with myself about the practicality of buying more yarn.
I particularly enjoy the encouragement that I can become a better knitter. I only wish I had more knitting time and money to knit it all.

Saturday snippets is a little bit of heaven to look forward to each weekend. I savor it, not reading it too quickly, because I want it to last as long as possible!
Question: I received my Blanket of Joy kit today. Where does it tell which colors are A, B, etc.? It’s probably very obvious, and I’m simply overlooking it.
I love MDK. It is always great to see the new projects and meet new designers. Of course, once in a while I get reminded of a work in progress and go searching…
If the whole world were as smart, funny, inclusive, collaborative, and as open to life, color, art, books, music, fashion, film, the joy of great writing and reading, a sense of community, and the #mdkluv of knitting … oh wow! … it would be such a more perfect place.
