Dear all,

It’s always a big deal when Kay shows up in Nashville.

Yes, there is an official Kay’s Desk designated specifically for Kay, with a chair, even.

When Kay is back at home in New York, Kay’s Desk becomes an ever-changing landscape. It’s not as fun when Kay is not at her desk, for sure. But it does serve as a central location where we try out yarn combinations, spread out samples for contemplation, and generally think about things.

This week, what with Kay being in town and all, I had to scrape off a batch of Isager Tvinni that had found its way to Kay’s Desk, along with some Freia Minikins that had popped up like mushrooms. And a yarn swift that has had good use this week as Hannah, our resident artist and graphics sorceress, begins her lessons with Skill Set: Beginning Knitting.

Thrilling! A new knitter in our midst! The universe just got a little better.

In other New Knitter News, I had word from MDK contributor and general all-around sunbeam Judy Wright that she had a swell time this week at a local high school as they launched a knitting club. Turns out, the app version of Skill Set is what the youngs are most likely to use when learning to knit.

In all, it’s been a week where we’ve all taken a breath after the push to launch the Holiday Shop. We’re all watching to see how our favorite items are faring, kind of like the first-grade play where your baby is the third fish from the left. You go, fish! You go, Amaryllis Kit!

  • That’s like asking which one of my children I love best! They are all so beautiful I ordered the soap and lotion sets as gifts for others ( ok I got an idea citrate one for me). I love the tea towels I’ve ordered those before they wear beautifully. And I was very tempted by the amaryllis kit they are so pretty!

    • This is a hard one I’d say a tie between the window stars kit with all that translucent color or the clover needle felting steek tools as I’ve been too scared to try steeking!

I really love the Soak Basin Bundle, the Bento Bags and those adorable stitch markers! I know, that’s three things but choosing just one thing is just too much to ask!

  • I love the bird feeder

  • I love the apron!

  • Field guides in a Tote!!

  • I love the knitters Tote

  • Soak basin bundle!

    • The African print bags for me.

  • I’d love a calendar towel- I “saved” it in my basket too long! ☹️

  • For me, the most beautiful items are the African print bags, but since I have more than 30 knitting bags, I can’t buy any. The most exciting items is the hand care duo because it has such a heartwarming story behind it. I can’t wait to try them out and give them as gifts!

  • Anything to do with yarn.

  • Hard, hard choice. But eventually I settled on the village scarf kit. So much fun.

  • The Bornn Enamelware is exquisite!

  • Yarn and whiskey bags!!

  • So always yarn. All the yarn. Beyond that I love the amaryllis and the enamel pin is so cute and inspired.

  • The Rowan Felted Tweed bundles!

  • Hand Care Duo! Love Thistle Farms mission & success rate. I am trying to focus my giving this year on groups helping women and children.

  • Sheep ornament.

  • My favorite thing in the look book? That’s hard – I will go with what I was immediately drawn to: the enamel trays.

  • Yarn and whiskey African print bags!

  • Coffee and the cheese and cracker tray because snacks are a necessity when knitting and I don’t see a wine offering yet( did I just miss it?). Yarn goes without saying. I may need one of those African cloth bags to dress up that yarn.

  • I love that enamelware. Maybe then I could stop borrowing all the saucers from the cupboard

  • Apologies for grazing past all the yarnie things, but my favorite item in the Holiday Shop has to be the Window Stars / Kite Paper. As the season turns toward winter and the sun sets oh-so-much earlier, I’m finding myself out on the deck looking at stars (searching for the elusive Aurora), and enjoying anything that adds soft colorful light to the world.

  • My favorite thing is The Year of The Dickie pin! I collect pins and intend to buy this for myself after I knit the swarf.

  • Oh my, so many! Generally, the item on the page before my greedy eyes. If I had to pick right this minute, I’d say The Amaryllis Kit, of course.

  • How can I pick just one? I would love a Felted Tweed Bundle (Bright or Dusty), and the Tulip Interchangeable Needle Set looks awesome. But if only one thing, then Making Marls by Cecelia Campochiaro which, according to our local independent bookseller, is sadly not available in Canada.

  • The African Print bags, the Soak basin bundle, the sheep and llama ornaments. I could go on…

  • I love the enamelware, but any of the items would be great!

  • The felt bags are tempting me.

  • Hello Ann! Carolyn in Jackson Hole here – we met during the wonderful Marl-o-Rama weekend a few weeks back. Love reading that the Skill Set app is a hit with the youngsters! We ramped up our middle school knitting club last week after a long COVID hiatus. One art teacher and one volunteer knitting teacher (me!) were greeted by no less than 25 6th-8th graders all eager to learn. Do you guys offer any school licenses to your software? These kids all have school-issued iPads. If you have a multi-use license option I could talk to the school about buying in! Regardless I will encourage the kids to check it out on their own personal devices

  • The paper stars! My dark days need brightening.

  • My favorites are the wooden serving sets and cracker servers.

  • Sheep ornament

  • Just too many to really choose! I really love the window bird feeder and the enamelware and the Thistle hand care and……

  • Just one thing? If I didn’t live on the fourth floor, I’d get the bird feeder. The Confident Knitting Library is next on my list – I’ve so enjoyed the articles Jen does that I know are all packed into that set (amazing!). And I need a bigger living space so I can entertain with those wooden serving boards and have a spot to stash a bucket specifically for soaking my knits (and laying them out to block – I have to plan a day where I don’t need the kitchen table currently). And since I’m working with imaginary space and money at this point, I’m ordering at least one of everything (except the coffee) so I can enjoy it!

  • The Hatch show print!

  • The Tulip Interchangeable Needle Set has been calling my name.

  • The Revolution tray and the enamelware. I love all my field guides and would love the book rest! I want to make the scarf from the Marl field guide!!! So many great things!!

  • I would love a subscription to the Field Guides!

  • Gosh! I actually have to choose? Sorry – I will have a hard time picking 10, nevermind just one! The catalogue is a beauty itself! The ya(ah!)rns…the plexiglass bird feeder contraption, the tree ornaments, the knitting gadgets and tools, the coloured wax paper kit… no way can pick just one item…
