Dear Everybody,

While DG Strong may be the OG Atlas Insider, forever and ever, amen—we have dreamed of the day when we could invite all of you to be Atlas Insiders—in the literal sense of being on the inside of our warehouse on Atlas Drive in Nashville.

Last weekend, on October 1 and 2, it finally happened.

Our personal camera rolls are filled with SO MANY MICRO SWATCHES, proving that the Felted Tweed palette is one of the best in the business. I don’t think we saw any marl repeats.

Most of the photos up top were taken by Allison Volek Shelton, in fleeting moments when she wasn’t doing everything else she was doing.

We had a blast.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made the trip to Atlas, whether you came from across the country (23 states were represented!) or across town. We loved seeing your faces, even behind masks. We loved watching you dig in to Cecelia Campochiaro’s marvelous experiments with marls—and all the beautiful marled projects that were started during those two days together.

Let’s do it again as soon as we can—the more we get together, the happier we’ll be.

Love,

Ann and Kay

      • Heck yeah the Swarf! So adaptable, so practical

        • Spectra sweater

      • Definitely the Marlogram Scarf! It’s simply beautiful and you just know every single one is unique. It’s a design suggestion, not a blueprint.

        • The color explosion throw is my favorite Marling project so far.

        • The blanket for sure, and I have a bunch of Rowan Felted Tweed just waiting to go!

        • The blanket is my favourite but the scarf is a close second!

  • The throw is just beautiful

    • I bought yarn for the Spectra sweater and found yarn in stash for a single panel of the throw to make a scarf. It’s a toss-up between these 2.

    • The Spectra sweater.

    • It’s the blanket. I had a great time at the retreat, loved seeing the finished items from #19 and so many others, in person. And the people, in person!

      • The Swarf!

      • The Swarf for sure!

      • I am in love with the swarf and it’s colors!

      • Me too, the blanket!

    • The marlogram scarf!

      • Marlogram scarf!!

        • My favorite is the Color Explosion throw/blanket, but my knit it now is the Swarf. Choosing 11 colors for the blanket is proving to be a project in itself and will take me awhile!

  • My favorite is the swarf

  • My favorite is the marlogram scarf.

    • Just blocked the cute hat! I love how intricate it looks yet so easy to knit!

  • Marlogram scarf!

    • Definitely the Spectra Sweater.

  • The Spectra Sweater – it is GORGEOUS <3 xx

    • Oh, how I seesaw-ed between the brilliant Swarf and holy mackerel Spectra sweater!!! The Spectra sweater leaves me gobsmacked, so wins.
The construction is so original and smart, and the marling so lovely.
But I have to second that emotion that “dickie” is a most unfortunate name!! SWARF it is! And Cecelia’s is amazing.

  • The Spectra Sweater is snazzy – but I keep thinking of the Swarf. How can you choose a favorite child?!

  • Making Mark’s Design looks exciting!

    • The specter sweater is wonderful and felted tweed is a favorite of mine to use

  • With the feel of Fall in the air ‘Making Marls’ and which direction projects are going – “scarf or cowl” has taken over conversations with other Oct 1-2 Weekend participants. Creating felted tweed swatches has become addictive as new color combinations multiply. Who thought swatching could be fun? Meeting the MDK family in person was a treat, as we found we have mutual connections from Albuquerque to Louisville to other locations across the world. Looking forward to seeing everyone again! A Reunion! Sign me up!

  • Color Explosion

  • The throw….no, the Swarf…no wait….those cute little hats! I can’t choose just one!

  • The Spectra sweater, it looks like you could make it so many times and get completely different garments. That said, I do love a blanket, and the colours in that blanket sample are gorgeous.

  • I like the dwarf! That looks inviting!

    • Swarf! Auto correct strikes again!

  • I love the swarf!

  • Definitely the Swarf!!

  • The colour explosion throw! I’ve knitted several sweaters in Rowan felted tweed and love it.

  • My favorite is the Spectra sweater.

  • A difficult question for sure, because they are all calling me to knit them. . . The one I decided to cast on and begin first is the Marlogram Scarf. . .and I am loving it! Looking forward to knitting the Striped Marl Hat and the Color Explosion Throw also. . .so many fun possibilities. . . I am looking forward to retirement and more time to focus on Knitting!

  • Color Explosion blanket brings color to an Autumn day

  • My favorite design from Making Marls is Fabian, and I’ve now knit it twice. Who doesn’t love an accordion rib knit on the bias? And there is so much opportunity to be creative with marled stripes. As a designer, Cecelia can do no wrong

  • Marlogram scarf

  • I love both sweaters in the field guide but the Swarf is brilliant and perfect for wearing under a jacket without the friction and bulk of the back and sleeves!

  • Color explosion blanket

  • I am definitely a swarf fan!

  • Marlogram scarf, pls.

  • Spectra sweater looks fascinating!

  • The color explosion throw! I never knit blankets but my thoughts kept returning to this since I love all the squares and how the colors ebb and flow

  • The color explosion throw. The leaves are turning, the garden is put to bed, and that looks like the perfect project.

  • I need the Color Explosion blanket

  • Color explosion

  • The marled hat from Field Guide 19. The perfect size project to be able to start and finish during this. busy time of year.

    • Crazy, but I’m still swatching. The subtle color changes have given me so many ideas. The marl hat will get me started and please a granddaughter too. Knitting, exploring many colors and new ideas together was a treat.
Thank you Ann, Kay and Cecilia.

  • The color explosion throw is fabulous!

  • Color Explosion throw

  • The Color Explosion Throw! I love Felted Tweed, and this blanket is now on my list to knit!

  • I love the Spectra sweater.

  • I’ve cast on the Color Explosion Throw and could not be happier. Actually, also very pleased with myself that my confusion about the directions for Marl #4 on the first stripe in the print version of Field Guide No. 19 led me to “Corrections” (https://www.moderndailyknitting.com/errata/). It is good to be reminded that we grow by testing what we know and what we think ought to be. Thanks to the MDK team for making pattern corrections clear and accessible!

  • The spectra sweater is a dream project.

  • I’m not usually drawn to hats, but those look so darned cuddly!

  • Love the Spectra sweater, it’s my favorite.

  • I have combined yarns often when making felted clogs. Now I have a name for it! Marls! Simply marvelous!

  • Marlogram Scarf/Cowl or Spectra Sweater are my choices – I’m not good at choosing favorites!

  • I love the Swarf…it’s just gorgeous!

  • Color Explosion Throw! Those photos make me jealous of everyone who attended. What a great weekend!!

  • My personal favorite would be Making Marls because it’s has so many pages of inspiration but it’s a hard choice because Field Guide 19 has some yummy projects.

  • The scarf/cowl

  • The marked stripe hat, but the scarf has me intrigued.

  • The SWARF for the win!!

  • Marlogram Scarf for me – I’ve always got a shawl on the needles, and I adore the yarn!

    • Marlogram cowl…I need manageable small projects these days. This event looked like so much fun and I hope to join y’all at a gathering one of these days. Many compliments to everyone for the extra efforts in making the get together as safe as possible – it should serve as an example for all event planning!

  • I LOVE the Spectra sweater!!!

  • The blanket is exquisite! I love experimenting with color and texture and that blanket has it all! Love, love, love it!

  • I love the swarf. May need to make some for Christmas presents.

  • The throw is the perfect winter project. Beauty and function rolled into one.

  • My favorite is the marlogram scarf.

  • The Spectra sweater! Cant wait to cast on

    • I LOVE the hat. Now to choose the colors.

  • I really like the Swarf pattern, but I fell down a rabbit hole looking through the Making Marls book. I thought Armstrong Improv was such a great way to us up miscellaneous bits of yarn and make something beautiful to wear.

  • My favorites to try first are the stripped hat and the scarf/cowl. I love that blue scarf. So pretty.

  • I just love the scarf to bits!

  • Scarf!

  • I think I like the striping in the Spectra Sweater the best.

  • I love the swarf AND the color explosion throw equally.

  • The allure of a marl with a sequence just seems like a delicious combo… Think Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Therapy…so sign me up for that scarf/cowl….probably scarf, actually…or wait…a swarf would be perfect….warm but not heavy….no, I think the scarf…oh, wait, BOTH!

  • specta sweater-can’t wait to make one

  • Love that swarf!

  • The Swarf is intriguing

  • I really, really, really love the color explosion throw. Wish I could have made it to the get together. My son and daughter in law live close to Nashville. Maybe I’ll visit them and join your next get together.

    • I love them all but I’ve never knit marls so I’ll probably start with the hat.

  • As an experiment with color, I like the scarf and the suggested color burst yarn. I am also drawn to the side to side sweater for the colors and new technique which I have wanted to attempt. But I may try the hat first. Oh, wait, maybe the blanket…

  • Love the swarf!

  • I like the marlogram cowl – I’m a slow knitter & appreciate smaller projects. 🙂

  • Marlogram scarf for me please!

  • My favorite is the Swarf!! So clever and the color choices really speak to me.

  • That amazing blanket!

  • Oh it’s the Swarf! I’m always running around in the winter with my coat open and unbuttoned. This is the perfect accessory for me!!!

  • Marlogram Scarf-amazing!!!!

  • I love all these photos. You have such a great place and everyone looks like they’re having so much fun. I love the last picture of just the two of you.

I would like to make swarf xx

  • The scarf is my favorite

    • That was swarf

  • Spectra sweater, dying to knit this!

  • The Color Explosion Throw. I love all things Rowan Felted Tweed!

  • The Color Explosion Throw. Gorgeous. I think. It might be a three-way tie with the Spectra Sweater and the Swarf. It’s very close!

  • Color explosion throw for sure. I’m working away and loving seeing it grow.

  • That swarf is amazing!

  • Color Explosion Throw

  • The color explosion throw.

  • M b A e R a L u O t G i R f A u M l !!!!

    • Very clever wordplay!

  • Long live the swarf!

  • That spectacular Color Explosion Throw!

  • Oh definately the throw. I love a knitted blanket. My favorite kind of project. Long term and endless possibilities.

  • It’s a toss up between the scarf and throw.

  • The blanket is mesmerising!

  • Color Explosion Blanket!

  • The swarf!

  • I’ve been struck by the Spectra Sweater every time it crosses my feed!

  • I’ve got to say the Spectra Sweater because of the vertical striping! Just lovely!

  • The Color Explosion Throw! Spectacular!

  • Love the Spectra sweater – so inventive, so many color opportunities.

  • Will try marling with a glass of marlot

  • So hard to choose I made her Parallelogram scarf and LOVE IT! I think this time is start with her Marlogram scarf!

  • I can’t wait to make the Spectra sweater!

  • Wow! Looks like such fun. So happy for you ladies!

  • The Spectra Sweater….very interesting design that’s made so beautifully with the marled colors

  • Spectra! Knit a sideways sweater years ago, so much fun!

  • The Spectra sweater – sideways and with a cooling v-neck! Crew neck and turtlenecks are contraindicated at this stage of life! How to narrow down the colour though.

  • Marlogram. But the Tynd yarn is AMAZING and I’m looking forward to knitting with it.

  • The Color Explosion throw, but in a cool color way: blues, greens…I actually love the warm color way as well, but I’m pretty sure that my intended recipient would be happier with cool colors. Now I just have to choose which ones, no small task.

  • I love the blanket and can just picture myself curling up under it! All those great colors!!

  • The Color Explosion throw is my favorite!

  • I have recently taught myself to knit with the help of SKILL SET:BEGINNING KNITTING and I have decided to knit a MAKING MARLS design.

  • The color explosion throw will be the first on my needles.

  • Definitely the scarf

  • Absolutely the Spectra sweater – I can’t wait to try it!

  • The Spectra Sweater

  • Marlogram scarf/cowl! I can’t stop browsing the colors of the Freia yarn.

  • I bought the Field Guide BECAUSE of the Spectra Sweater. Just have to decide on colors…

  • The Color Explosion Throw! Beautiful.

  • The throw is an eye popping work of art but for now I’m excited to knit the striped marl hat.

  • I love the patterns in FG #19 and love being able to see how people are creating their own marls in Ravelry.

  • The Spectra sweater!

    • The color explosion throw.

  • Love the award!

  • Swarf,

  • I’m totally intrigued by that Swarf.

  • Armstrong Improv and Marlogram. MDK newest yarns are so tempting.

  • Marlogram scarf

  • Oh definitely the throw but I’m going with the Marlogram Scarf/Cowl since I’d have a better chance of making it a Finished Object!

  • The Color Explosion Throw is my favorite. It’s the very first time that a blanket pattern made me consider taking on such a big project. It looks scrumptious.

  • Gotta be the Swarf!

  • Hats! They look so cool with the stripes.

  • The Marlogram scarf is gorgeous!! Love it!

  • I’m behind on knitting, so I would pick the double wide! I’ve been wanting to knit it for ages.

  • I wish I could have been there…love the colors!

  • Ooh, I think the Spectra Sweater, with the Marlogram right on its heels.

  • I’ve knit the hat and am now plotting another….it was a fun knit.
Absolutely love the 6 stitch to add new colour and the small swatch….brilliant method. Thanks.

  • Spectra sweater!

  • Definitely the “dickie.” It was an essential wardrobe piece in Upstate New York during my teen years.

  • Perfect project for winter in Montana is color explosion!

  • I think Barnett will be first. My reasoning is that it combines marling with sequencing so beautifully, and that I think I have in my stash six lace weight colors that will work. What a grand plan I am making!

  • I especially like the hats, simple, wearable classic.

  • Marlogram scarf/cowl.

  • I would love to make the Parker Improv Mitts from Making Marls. These pictures are wonderful, and make me feel like I was at the workshop!

  • I love the Spectra Sweater. It offers so many color possibilities and a fit that will be flattering on any body type.

  • I love, love, love the blanket.

  • The Color Explosion Throw!

  • I love the color explosion throw. That’s definitely my current favorite.

  • The swarf

  • As a former dickie wearer, my favorite is the swarf..

  • The Spectra Sweater!

  • Love them all but right now the Striped Marl Hat is calling to me. So many opportunities for stash busting!

  • I am torn between the Marlogram scarf and THAT SWEATER! I am finishing my swoncho this week and then onward!
Every single one of the posted MDK World Headquarters photos made me smile and a little misty-eyed. This event was a longggggg time comin’.

  • I’m torn between the amazing throw and the Spectra sweater!

  • The marlogram

  • I have both the Field Guide and the Making Marls book. Delighted to see the combination. Just knit the marled hat in the Field Guide. Thanks so much for featuring Cecilia! I also took a class virtually from her when Stitches opened up. I’m a big fan.

  • My son needs a new hat and the Striped Marled Hat is exactly what I wanted.

  • Spectra sweater

  • Definitely the Swarf. It’s just so Me!!

  • Spectra sweater!

  • Impossible Sophie’s Choice there! But if I had to put one above all others, it would have to be the Dickie, er Swarf. I tried it on at the event last week and can’t stop thinking about it.

  • They are all calling to me! But that Blanket is amazing!

  • My personal favorite is Feild Guide No. 19, smaller, easier to carry around.

  • The spectra sweater, I’d love to give it a try. Have never knitted a sweater sideways before

  • The blanket is amazing – those colors just call out to me! And I can’t wait to try the sweater as well…..

  • Color Explosion

  • My absolute bestest favorite is the blanket, hands down.

  • Duchamp is one that I would love to try – but they’re all so different and lovely.

  • I really like the swarf. I’ve been slightly obsessed with dickies, but I don’t like turtlenecks :-\

  • Marlogram Scarf!

  • I knit the Marlogram, so I guess it’s my favorite. (I love the blanket, but woolen blankets make me sneeze—boo hoo.)

  • The marlogram scarf!

  • The throw!

  • Field Guide #19 has lots of ideas

  • Loving the Marlogram.

  • Color Explosion

  • The color explosion blanket made me moan quietly in desire. Do I need another blanket? It seems that I might…

  • That Spectra sweater! Its amazing.

  • Spectra Sweater, it’s a “sure to go to” sweater

  • I love the marlogram scarf/cowl!

  • The Spectra Sweater is my favorite ! I haven’t done a cuff to cuff sweater in a long time.

  • Love the Color Explosion blanket. The more colors the better!

  • Love that Marlogram! Those slowly shifting colors are mesmerizing.

  • The Spectra sweater – it’s gorgeous and different, knit side to side!

  • Field Guide 10 is my favorite

  • So hard to choose, but the marlogram scarf

  • The blanket – swoon. Love it!

  • That lovely throw

  • The Blanket is glorious!

    • Multiple Striped Marled hats for me!

  • My fav so far is the color explosion throw. Making a washable baby version now, then a big ole one for me. I’m thinking it may be the long term car knitting event like my first Fussy Cuts blanket.

  • The color variation and texture of the marlogram speak to me. But, the sweater is what make we want to dive into the pattern, choose colors and cast on.

  • Hard to choose, but the marlogram scarf is mighty enticing!

  • Marlogram scarf, please!

  • The Swarf is a tie with the blanket.

  • That giant blanket, if only I had the bandwidth!

  • I can’t wait to start the throw. But I have to get home from Europe to evaluate the missing pieces in my Felted Tweed stash.

  • It’s had to choose, but I think the Spectra Sweater is my fav.

  • Def the Swarf, such a clever idea.

  • My favorites are the cowl/scarf and the throw! Glad you had such a success day – I hope to come visit one day.

  • The one, the only….SWARF!

  • I have so many single skeins of fingering weight that I could probably make 10 of the marled sweaters. So that would be my first choice from the Field Guide

  • The color explosion throw is just amazing, so many possibilities.

  • The throw. It is a stunner.

  • I like the color explosion throw.

  • Spectra sweater!! On, wait – the Throw!!
We’ll, maybe the Hat!! Oh, heck – I love them all!!

  • I love the playfulness of marls. Very fun

  • I’m just fascinated with the Marlogram scarf/cowl. I think I’d do it as a cowl…. Over and over again in different colours!

  • The Marlogram scarf is already on my needles. Thank you for getting the yarn to me so quickly!!!

  • The striped marl hat! This will make an excellent gift knit 🙂

  • Marlogram scarf!

  • The Spectra Sweater! I have long wanted to do a sideways sweater and the marling makes this pattern a twofer fer sure!

  • The Swarf! I can’t wait to make this. The perfect, warm, stylish, gotta-make-a-quick-dash-out-no-matter-what-I’m-wearing-underneath project!

  • The throw is fabulous, but I NEED to make a scarf … or two. And a hat, of course. My husband will get one also.

  • The Spectra Sweater is my favorite garment. I would make it in a heartbeat if I were a better knitter.

  • I’m loving the striped marl hat so much right now. Could be because I’m almost done with a sweater I’ve been working on slowly all sprint and summer (did I mention it’s a spring/summer sweater?) and am craving a small project to work on next! 🙂

  • I love the throw.

  • Spectra sweater!

  • The Color Explosion Throw, with its juicy and delicious color palette! Nothing sparks my eyes quite like those pinks….

  • I am currently working on the striped mark hat to get the feel for it and I have purchased the kit for the color explosion, which is magnificent.

  • Well, I am crazy for all of the projects in FG19…
but I especially love that photo of Ann and Kay at the wall of Felted Tweed.

  • I also LOVE the color explosion throw!

  • The Spectra Sweater, it’ so eye catching!

  • Well before clicking over to Cecelia’s website and seeing the Cayley scarf I might have said neither, as apparently marls remind me of the ragg wool socks of my youth albeit more colorful versions, but there’s a personal hang-up going on there. I really don’t know why. However, as I said I do like the look of the Cayley. I have been a fan of the Felted Tweed since the 80s and Kaffe brought it to my attention. I have never actually knitted with it though.

  • The color explosion throw is my favorite to look at so many beautiful color combinations, but I would probably make the sweater.

  • I LOVE the Color Explosion Throw!!

  • The marlogram scarf, although I do love the throw too!

  • Love every single one, but Color Explosion Throw has me dreaming about colors instead of school responsibilities. I’m so grateful for the peaceful, colorful sleep.

  • Definitely the Marlogram scarf – just so many color combos to choose from!

  • I can’t stop thinking about the dickie.

  • My fave is easy, Field Guide 19!!! And the throw is on my list:)))

  • I love a great blanket pattern and the Color Explosion throw is just that. Thank you!

  • It is hard, but I am drawn to the spectra sweater! I love the construction!

  • The Marlogram Scarf

  • Knit it now is the marlogram scarf, but love the swarf and the sweater. Knitting the scarf, others on the list.

  • the spectra sweater

  • The swarf for sure. I’ve already knitted the first 20 rows despite having 2 other Christmas gifts to knit. It was very nice to meet you all at Atlas. Can’t wait for next time!!

  • The color explosion blanket, the colors are entrancing.

  • spectra sweater

  • Please install some cots or hammocks or air mattresses so we can stay overnight!! What a glorious space for the love of yarn….

  • Field guide no. 19

    • Spectra sweater

  • Tough choice! I like the scarf. Those colors are perfect

  • That’s an easy one — the Spectra sweater! I ordered the yarn almost immediately after seeing the sweater. I finished the back yesterday.

  • The sweater and the blanket are a tie for me. But I’ll start with the blanket as a scarf idea from the weekend.

  • FG 19 because Color Explosion and Spectra will be in my que and it supplements the depth of info in Making Marls! I’ll be micro swatching soon

  • Marlagram scarf – I love the combination of marling and sequence knitting – especially with Freia’s amazing yarns.

  • I will start with the hat.

  • The Spectra sweater! The colors are fabulous!

  • The Color Explosion throw! In those colors!

  • The Spectra Sweater!!

  • I love Making Marls for its instructions and details but not being a scarf person, my favorite pattern in it is Ornette Improv. It would be fun to IMPROVise even more in the making of that hat.

  • Love the felted tweed blanket. So gorgeous and fun with lots of color!!

  • For me FG 19 and the Spectra sweater!

  • The Spectra Sweater- never tried a sideways sweater, let alone marling!

  • The marlogram scarf is calling my name.

  • Color explosion throw—gorgeous!

  • I want to knit the hat but also really love the throw.

  • The swarf is on the way to my needles. I have a 90 + year old friend who is always cold even in warm climates. It will be perfect for him …peeking out from under a shirt, Genius! Thanks!

  • Marlogram scarf/ cowl!

  • I would love to make the throw. It is beautiful

  • Is it ok if I don’t have a favorite yet?

  • Oh no!! Do I have to choose? Impossible…..

  • The throw is to die for and of course I would use Rowan felted tweed. Starting with the cowl for now !

  • I’m in love with Color Explosion Throw!

  • I vote for Swarf!!! Love the cables and Felted Tweed possibilities.
Would love to make it into a vest.

  • Making Marks. There are lovely designs in the Field Guide; nevertheless, I’m the kinda gal who wants someone to show me the way and stand back. That makes the mistakes all mine.

  • My favorite project is from Field Guide 19, The Color Explosion Throw. I have a passion for comfy blankets to read under, or knit under when my problematic hands will let me. I love the reds used in the example. It reminds of strawberry shortcake. Living in Michigan, this would be a great fall project before the cold winter winds arrive.

  • Swarf, Swarf, Swarf!! A thousand times, Swarf!! It’s genius, I tell ya! And my hanks of scrumptious Tynd are just dying to be wound, I can tell.

  • I would love to be able to knit the Color Explosions Throw one day. It is so beautiful!

  • Making marls!

  • Making Marls, bought it when it first came out. Everything you ever want to know about….Mrls

  • My favorite is the swarf, but they are all great

  • The Color Explosion Throw!!

  • I love the marlogram scarf/cowl!

  • I’ve started on the spectra sweater. The hat is on my project list and I may have to make the swarf too.

  • Marlogram for sure! Made 2 other designs from Cecelia and can’t wait to start Marlogram.

  • Swarf or Spectra… I must choose? Ok, SWARF it is!

  • I can think of so many reasons to make the Swarf but the best one is how beautiful it is.

  • Color Explosion !!!!! Color Explosion !!!!! Color Explosion !!!!! Color Explosion !!!!! Color Explosion !!!!!

  • Just love the Spectra sweater for all its possibilities

  • Looks like great fun. Love the pix of the two of you.

  • I think the scarf/cowl would be fun to make and wear. It is fun learning new techniques and playing with different colors in the yarns.

  • I have already received my box of yarn for the throw. As I marl, I will dream of the day I win the lottery to attend an MDK event in person.

  • My fave is CASTELL & CASTELLETTE from Making Marls… talk about colour explosion (but also could be more toned down hue combo – my stash will be the inspiration!).
The “Cover Swatch” of her book is another “Cecilia” encapsulated: a sample of hidden sequencing within the colour changes.
I purchased a number of alpaca lace yarns which are not likely to be all knitted into lace FO’s… Marling will be a more likely way of using them!

  • Oh, I love the swarf! And its colors make me love it even more!

  • Spectra seems so simple and so sophisticated all at the same time!

  • Oh boy that’s tough, the marled throw is spectacular so that wins for me.

  • Spectra sweater!!

  • The blanket. A work of art!

  • Throw blanket!

  • The blanket – but the swarf is growing on me. I saw a dickie in another place this week and I thought — they’re having a moment!

  • The Striped Marled Hat will be perfect for south Texas.

  • The sweater is my favorite design, but it’s hard to select. The blanket is also intriguing.

  • I cannot wait to knit a swarf. Dickies to me are sung cowls.

  • The blanket has my heart!

  • We have to choose?!?!? If I have to, it would be the Marlogram scarf/cowl. Close would be the Color Explosion Throw. Fantastic giveaway, thanks!

  • The swarf is most engaging, but I also love the marlogram scarf.

  • The marjoram scarf. Hard to decide on colors, I want them all!

  • Spectra sweater

  • They are all great designs but I think I will start with the cap!

  • I would start with the marlogram cowl (I know my attention span) but in my heart, I want the Color Explosion Throw! It is amazing!

  • Thanks for the photos. Looks like a grand time! I’m in love with the color explosion throw. <3

  • The Striped Marl Hat. It is simple, fast, and unique.

  • I admire the Spectra Sweater. Great color combinations.

  • Spectra sweater. I’ve taken Cecilia’s class – what fun! The mini swatches are an innovative approach and so revealing. Full of unexpected surprises.

  • The colour explosion throw is my favourite!

  • I have to admit, I can’t stop thinking about the dickie!

  • the hats!

  • The Swarf is my favorite FG19 design–looking forward to casting on!

  • I am digging this marling business. The sequence knitting is a welcome challenge. So, it is Marlogram in the morning, Marled Hat for happy hour.

I do love that Spectra sweater… the throw…and that Swarf – what an invention!

  • The Color Explosion throw.

  • So hard to pick just one, but the swarf won out!

  • The blanket took my breath away 🙂

  • The throw!!!

  • Oh my! It’s hard to choose. In these cold days I will pick the marvellous, colourful blanket.

  • Spectra Sweater

  • As a woman who is always a little to warm in a sweater, I’m awfully tempted by the Swarf……..

  • The color explosion throw is just beautiful!

  • Hands down – the Spectra Sweater is the one for me!

  • Love them all, but the Marlogram scarf and the Color Explosion Throw are calling my name!

  • The Marlogram cowl…love small projects these days. The gathering looks like it was great fun; compliments to everyone for doing everything possible to have a safe event and it should serve as an example of great planning!

  • The striped marled hat because hats and mittens are my favorite things to knit as they are quick, very portable, good “palate cleanser” between bigger projects (or when another project needs a time out), great for when your attention is divided (watching my kids play sports, babysitting the toddler grandkids, knitting while reading), and they are very easy to gift! Although the micro swatches may become a minor obsession. So many colorful combos! And textural… kidsilk or suri with felted tweed?, match or contrast the colors?… hmmm. (PS- probably going to have a pair or 6 of striped marled mittens in the queue. Just sayin’.)

  • I wish I wish I wish I SO wish I could have joined y’all for the wonderful weekend extravaganza. Thank you for the pictures, it just makes me feel worse, LOL. Hopefully next time…it’s a long way from California! I am completely smitten with the Color Explosion blanket. All those phenomenal colors, marked yo to make even more phenomenal colors…I’m saving up my pennies to get myself a holiday gift. Or maybe I will just let Husband gift it to me, yes, that’s the ticket…

  • That Marlogram scarf/cowl is calling my name!

  • My favorite pattern is Swarf. This is a beautiful sweater. I putting in my knitting must knits.

  • I love your Field Guides. #19 is especially informative. They are great for traveling and gift giving.

  • Cecilia’s books are amazing, but I prefer the Field Guide. I love the size of them and the layout, feels very accessible and knitable!

    • I love that I’m not the only one who read that question, which is your favorite field guide? D-oh! 😉

The striped marl hat would satisfy my itch to try many new combos but deep in my heart of hearts i want to do a mashup of the Spectra sweater with the to-die-for long color repeat mutability (and the stitch pattern!) of the Marlogrsm cowl, whose look I love love love but I don’t think i wear cowls.

      Or do I…? Ack! 🙂

      Best knitting fun to all…

  • I think I’d start with the hat…

  • The blanket is my dream

  • Tough choice! Have to go with Field Guide 19, the Color Explosion throw is gorgeous! As are the accessories.

  • It’s so hard to choose I love them all! I think the scarf is my favorite

  • I like the Spectra sweater

  • Marlogram scarf! Thank you

  • The blanket!

  • I love the spectra sweater. It’s simple, it’s elegant and the blanket since I’m into knitting ten stitch blankets at the moment.

  • The Spectra – all heart eyes!

  • Tough call, but I have to say the marlogram scarf.

  • I love marling so all the Field Guide 19 patterns are my jam! But I cast on the Marlogram cowl first because I also adore the Freia yarn, and so already had 3 skeins of it in my stash.

  • The blanket without a doubt. So stunning!

  • OMG… The Color Explosion Blanket!!! Gorgeous!

  • All are so beautiful but I think I like the throw the best!!! (Hard to decide actually)

  • The Spectra sweater – love it!

  • My immediate answer is the swarf, but then I wondered if it’s the colors that I’m in love with (I do that a lot with patterns.). So then I thought the color explosion blanket – but colors again! So beautiful. But then I thought that color really is the point of marls? Yes? I’ll just have to pick one and start and see where it goes. (I haven’t had a chance yet to get “Making Marls” – maybe for Christmas.

  • The Colour Explosion Throw! So beautiful, so endlessly changing. All the marl projects are intriguing, including the Parallelogram Scarf.

  • The marl-icious blanket, of course!

  • Marlogram scarf/cowl. Glorious!

  • I really love the striped marl hat.

  • I’m a Swarfie

  • I’m obsessed with blankets right now so definitely the color explosion throw!

  • It is a toss up between the Marlogram Scarf and the Color Explosion Blanket.

  • Oh! There are so many wonderful patterns in both Making Marls and the Marls Field Guide! I love the Coltrane and Armstrong Improv Triangle Shawls and really love the Rialto scarf from Making Marls, but I am also loving the Parallelogram Scarf from Sequences Field Guide and the Marlogram Scarf from Marls Field Guide. I will also probably knit that great sideways Spectra Sweater from Marls Field Guide!

    Do I have to choose? I can’t!

  • Field guide 19. I am looking forward to swatching for the Spectral Sweater. I have 13 colors of a cotton wool blend I want to play with. Just a project or two to finish first.

  • Frankly, any of the projects would be awesome! An embarrassment of riches-be
beautiful color, texture, shapes and patterns.

  • Love the Spectra Sweater!

  • Making Marls fave is the Finsen shawl and Field Guide fave is Color Explosion Throw. Nice to see marls expanded beyond lace and fingering weight yarns.

  • Definitely the spectra sweater

  • I’m so intrigued by the Swarf!

  • The swarf! Soon to be on my needles! I really love them all!

  • #19

  • I LOVE the blanket. I will need to try some swatches before I could decide the colors. But the kit is gorgeous! I have finished the garter stitch blanket/shawl in felted tweed and I can’t stop knitting with felted tweed!!!
I took a class with Cecilia and loved the math and sequences at Vogue NYC 2020 and I can’t wait to try more projects.

  • color explosion throw is beautiful

  • Would love to make the swarf to combat the coming winter winds in Wisconsin.

  • I would like to make the Marlogram scarf – just to see how it comes out!

  • Marlogram scarf!

  • I will make the marlagram someday but I also love the hat. The Swarf seems so cool but I live very far south and I am not sure when I would really use it. the whole turtleneck thing. Maybe for a relative who lives in MI

  • The colour explosion throw is fabulous! But so is the scarf and the scarf and the hat, oh my so many possibilities!

  • The Marlogram shawl is really interesting and I’d like to make one, but the Spectra sweater just grabbed me and won’t let go. Whenever I see a photo of it, it pulls me in and I start dreaming of color. I HAVE to make one.

  • Marlogram-o-rama! As soon as I finish (ok start) the Parallelogram…

  • Love the marled blanket. I see it in my near future!

  • The Color Explosion throw is gorgeous! Thanks for the opportunity to win this prize.

  • Swarf

  • It can be windy cold in NJ – the Swarf for me!

  • The Spectra sweater, but I will admit to not having made a lot of the marls yet. I’m smitten with sequence knitting, so I want to incorporate marls into sequence

  • I love the Marlogram scarf!

  • Spectra Sweater, closely followed by the cowl. Both great Christmas presents.

  • The spectra! I love the center striping. And, the sideways construction = less shoulder seaming!

  • the spectra sweater has such an attractive drapey look.

  • Without a doubt the color explosion throw!

  • I haven’t read either but I think I would prefer field guide 19. The blanket and sweater alone are worth it!

  • Striped Marled Hats for everyone in my family!!

  • #1 Fave: MARLOGRAM Cowl!
Am rolling with Freia Handprints Vertigo and Chinook.
Am also working to finish my homework on the box-in-box marled scarf started at the Atlas weekend, a.k.a. Microswatch Madness, lol!

  • The Color Explosion Throw is my favorite.

  • I really like Making Marls!

  • Field Guide No. 19

  • The scarf is my favourite, would look great under a denim or plain linen shirt.

  • Making Marls!

  • The light! The yarn! The food!!! Oh, I wish I were there! Well done, everyone. I started my own marl at home. Not the same but still good

  • The marls for sur.

  • Marlogram cowl! Already started!

  • I am a fan of Field Guide 19. There’s an opportunity to work several marked projects, each one better than the last. I’m working on the Marlogram Cowl right now and will do the Spectra sweater next. Making Marls is a beautiful book but I spend more time looking at the pictures than knitting. It’s easier for me to take a few projects at a time to decide to work on so the Field Guides are perfect for me.

  • The Color Explosion throw for sure!

  • The Spectra Sweater.

  • Definitely the Marlogram Scarf! No two of those are ever going to be alike. It’s more of a design suggestion than a blueprint and I love that.

  • The scarf/cowl will be my first project from the Marls Field Guide. I can’t wait to cast on!

  • The throw is gorgeous. Realistically, the cowl is what I would knit!

  • Field guide #19

  • The Spectra Sweater calls to me!

  • Color explosion throw- all the marling possibilities!

  • The Color Explosion Throw. I just was to curl up in it.

  • Color Explosion Throw!

  • The marlogram scarf, so yummy.

  • The Marlogram scarf.

  • Spectra Sweater for sure

  • The Spectra Sweater!

  • The Swarf or the throw!

  • How do I choose? I guess I’ll start small with the adorable hats and work my way up to the amazing Color Explosion Throw!

  • That sideways spectra sweater but can a beginner knit it?

  • The Swarf! I am making several for Christmas.

  • Color me Swarf-Curious!!! So much to love, looking forward to trying it all out!!

  • The Spectra sweater, with the blanket running a close second.

  • I love be the Spectra sweater.

  • Color Explosion Throw, I think…it’s tough to decide, but I’m wanting to start a blanket soon, so that is speaking to me.

  • The Swarf! It’s brilliant.

  • I am in awe of CC’s creative skills. Spectra is a top fave.

  • I have No. 19, but think Making Marls would be an excellent resource!

  • I love bothm

  • I love the Striped Marl Hat. It looks easy enough for a newbie, and I can learn how to make that beautiful subtle colour grading.

  • The Swarf! I’ve never felt this way about a dickie before…although I admit to harboring thoughts about turning it into a vest.

  • I love the Marlogram scarf/cowl. But the Striped Marl hat would be first on my list to knit–a super holiday gifts project.

  • I am obsessed with the Color Explosion Throw – what a magnificent project!

  • Marlogram scarf!

  • I already have my microswatches ready for a Spectra sweater!

  • So many lovely projects. I would start though with the Marlogram scarf.

  • The Marlogram! I cast on Saturday and I’ve been blissfully knitting it since then.

  • I’m firmly anti-dickey, but I daresay the Swarf has me wanting to make one. The cowl is probably what I’d knit first, though.

  • I love the Spectra sweater. Fun and looks wearable.

  • I love the Spectra Sweater…especially the sample knit. Those colors! Swoon!

  • So far, each design in FG 19 has been my favorite, until the next change of heart bumps that one for the next. As of this moment, it’s the Spectra sweater. Next moment, could change! We’ll see which makes it on to the needles first 🙂

  • I love the Color Explosion Throw!!

  • It’s got to be the incredible blanket! Such colors!

  • The Marlogram Scarf

  • Color explosion throw!

  • Oh, the Color Explosion Throw… I dream about snuggling under all that marled goodness. I’ll have to learn to knit in my sleep to actually find time to make one!

  • I would choose the Spectra Sweater!

  • The Color Explosion Throw looks amazing! But I’m most likely to start with the hats 🙂

  • waiting for my Tynd to arrive to cast on for a Swarf just love it. already ordered more yarn for another different colors.

  • I SO wish I lived closer to Nashville especially for your event. Another time perhaps. I love the new field guide and there are a few of the patterns that I’d like to try. At some point the Color Explosion Throw but the two I am debating between to try first are the Spectra Sweater and the Swarf. I have a feeling the Swarf is going to win out with the cooler weather inching towards the Northeast and the unpredictable inner temperature fluctuations. A little more layering is nice but not necessarily over the whole torso. Thanks for all you do at MDK. I am always smiling when I see your emails in my inbox or open a package of ordered items.

  • The Marlogram is some next level… taking two Freia yarns and marling them! Mind blown.

  • The Spectra Sweater hands down! It’s now in my queue (Very Looooonnnnnnggggggg queue) to be knitted.

  • I love the Spectra Sweater, but even though I never knit them, the blanket patterns have my heart. So Color Explosion Throw it is.

  • I love the color explosion throw!

  • The Color Explosion Throw. I’m into making 30”x60” rectangles called hugs for an organ donor group to give to donor families, and this pattern would fit right into that!

  • Hi Ya’ll from Texas,
Glad to here the get together was enjoyable. When we get together it seems more fulfilling than any online venue (but those are better than nothing). I prefer the book Making Marls because it goes into more depth about the technique. You really have to try it to experience the magic though. That is where the field guides come in because they give you more patterns to try out.

  • Definitely the Color Explosion Throw. A work of art.

  • Making Marls, a feast

  • Swarf! I like a smaller project, and this is perfect for adding some warm without bulk. Besides, I think I could knit this.

  • Field Guide 19 Making Marls. I started knitting the scarf pattern yesterday.

  • I’m partial to the marl-o-gram scarf, but the Swarf is also amazing!

  • The Color Explosion Throw! I’ve made her Ella Cowl and the color changes were amazing but the throw… I just have to do this!

  • I loved the workshop and was thrilled to be there in person. Cecelia suggested making one panel of the blanket as a scarf so I’m going with that. Still playing a bit with my mini swatches and I’m happy with the combos I came up with. Mini swatching is an amazing process and I highly recommend it. More fun than you would think too!

  • Striped Marl Hats! As soon as I saw the blue one and the orangey one and the beige one. But blue first.

  • I love every one of the projects, but count me in for a color explosion (& any kind of throw).

  • Definitely the blanket!

  • Absolutely….the Color Explosion Throw.

  • The Spectra Sweater

  • The swarf looks like such a fun, useful knit!!

  • I am in love with the Color Explosion Throw! If I make it, it will be my knitting legacy to my granddaughter. It’s everything wonderful about knitting – design, color, and texture!

  • I would try the Spectra Sweater!

  • The Spectra Sweater!

  • I love the shawls, Finsen and Taddeo, in Making Marls. I have to get the book so I can make these patterns!!

Late last year, inspired by Cecelia’s FG Sequences and the new marls craze, I made a MDK inspired log cabin lap blanket using a different stitch pattern in each block, with two colors of stashed Rowan Felted Tweed at a time, changing one color for each new block. I love how it looks, the double strands make it extra warm, and it earned a ribbon at our county fair!

  • The sweater is so pretty! I would definitely make that!

  • Color Explosion Throw, hands down.

  • The color explosion throw is divine!

  • I am new to your Website but find it irresistible. Right now I am fascinated by the color possibilities for the Marlogram scarf/cowl. Have been looking for patterns that produce a fabric that looks complicated but is easy to knit. This one seems ideal.

  • That spectrua sweater is SO GOOD!

  • Oh, this is so hard to choose. Perhaps I will start with the swarf. It is so unique and not a big project. I love the colors that were used but I like to challenge myself to try to play more with colors. Oh the possibilities!

  • My personal favorite is Field Guide 19.

  • Ooh la la I have to say that all of projects are on my need to make list lol!!! My favourite if I am forced to choose is the blanket it’s so stunning the one in the guide reminds me of sunsets. • Not an easy question – a Spectra sweater for myself, or a Marlogram for a Holiday present? I choose . . . Marlogram! After the contractors leave this afternoon, I’ll cast on, using Kay’s (?) excellent suggestion for doing it in peace & quiet.

  • Marlogram? Swarf? Who among us can chose?

  • I am smitten with the Swarf!

  • SWARF!

  • The blanket

  • The Spectra Sweater. Just give me a cup of coffee and a fire to cozy up with while wearing this sweater.

    • Began knitting again about a year and a half ago. I own all the field guides because they are fantastic but I haven’t tried any of the patterns yet because I still feel new. However I intend to knit every pattern in Marls, they are calling my name. Starting with Marlogram—this week ordered that awesome yarn—so hard to choose the colors!
