Dear Kay,

I have a confession to make.

I have not faithfully listened to every single thing that you have recommended in our ongoing Saturday feature, Knit to This.

It is hard to keep up, woman. You have such a dogged ability to throw out high-quality knittertainment that I have every intention of absorbing it all, yet I have only two ears, two eyeballs, and 24 hours in a day.

But now, Kay, now is the time. I’m going to dig deep in our Knit to This department because I know it’s all good. All killer, no filler. Nothing in here is like that podcast that one’s cousin swears is great but in fact is not.

You may have noticed that we are being encouraged to shelter in place, socially distance ourselves, basically hunker down and get out of the way while this virus plays out.

I just checked, and at this point we have 147 recommended items to which one might knit. It runs the gamut, these recommendations. Food. Gardening. Volcanoes. English grammar. World War I. The Moon shot.

Some are obvious: the stunning true crime podcast S-Town.

Others feel like you’re hanging with the galpals: Call Your Girlfriend.

A podcast quite timely these days: Inside Trader Joe’s.

A podcast specifically designed to help you fall asleep: Sleep with Me.

And, truth to tell, my all-time favorite Knit to This is “I Can See Clearly Now” with Jimmy Cliff. I cannot hear this song without jumping up and dancing it out.

I figure I’m at least halfway through all 147 Knit to Thises, because I’m the one who wrote half of them. Now, I’m going to complete my set and finish listening to yours.

For those who all of a sudden have time available, here’s where to find the Knit to This department.

Sending peace, love, and Koffee’s Tiny Desk Concert. She’s the 19-year-old marvel from Jamaica.

Love,

Ann

  • Happy Saturday! I have a brief respite from work this morning so it’s time to kick back and indulge in a bit of knitting. Thank you for always being here — the consistency and fun that is MDK is a huge comfort!

  • Good choice, Koffee is great, she has so much energy and catchy tunes!
Thanks to you both for helping keep the boredom and anxiety at bay xxx

  • Jimmy Cliff is one of my closet favorites ! You Can Get It If You Really Want !

  • I have to thank y’all for letting me know about Where The Heart Is, it is perfect for these discombobulating times! I’ve been watching on Amazon, a few episodes every night as a treat. Little easy dilemmas that get solved to everyone’s satisfaction in 50 minutes, what could be better….

  • Dear Kay and Ann, I appreciate the varied suggestions provided in Knit to This. I look forward to your witty emails and much needed humor. Thank you both!

  • Bless you for this!

  • Another podcast to help you fall asleep is “Good Night” by Paula. Under the “coming soon” episode note, it says that it’s the podcast “that helps quiet your brain so you can fall asleep. Let me tell you a story.” Paula is also a friend of mine and a wonderful knitter. I can give two thrums up (was supposed to be thumbs, but I’m gonna leave it) and five stars to her podcast. Her voice is so soothing and calm; I swear she could read the phonebook and it would sound like the best bedtime story ever.
