Dear Kay,

It started with me looking out the window yesterday morning and seeing the thin gray sky brightening a bit, with the sun poking out and boosting the humidity—just the way we like it here in Nashville.

Off I went into “I Can See Clearly Now,” and I’ve been on a reggae loop ever since. You can play Johnny Nash’s original version or Jimmy Cliff’s less-produced one. They’re both completely amazing.

Devonnie Black’s got the same idea—“The Only Reggae Playlist You need for Your Sunday Cleaning Regimen” is totally fantastic. Of course, it’s going to be hard to sit still with all this amazing music playing, but I think it’s possible to knit to this music—as long as you make sure to get up offa that thing, and dance ’til you feel better.

Love,

Ann

  • Just what I needed on this gloomy wet day on the east coast, thanks!

  • I love Jimmy Cliff! Sirius XM plays his stuff on their Margaritaville station; it’s my favorite when it’s cold out because I feel warm instantly when Reggae is playing!

  • Who can dance after rising so early for the royal wedding? I need a nap!

  • I have been a lover of Jimmy Cliff’s music since the 70’s. Great music to relax and knit to.

  • WOW! Thanks for that beautiful pick me up on a cloudy Pacific North West morning Ann. That put a smile on my face 🙂

  • Oh yes! Perfect after the deluge we’ve had here. Thank you.

  • I think you broke the interwebs! After watching/ listening to both versions of I Can See Clearly Now, I clicked on the playlist and kept getting a “website crashed” message. Oops, we (knitters) did it again!

    • Yep

  • Think this will affect my guage.

  • What a great post! I’m a Jamaican knitter living in Canada

  • BBC has a great documentary on reggae and its origins: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00sl252/episodes/player

I listened to it a while back and learned a lot about the origins of Jamaican music.

  • Heh. Back in the day my husband and I liked different types of music. I was a Stones fan, he liked the Beatles. I thought his choices simplistic, he thought mine perverted. But we both liked reggae, so that’s what we listened to when we were together.

  • I love this. Thank you!
