We Can’t Wait to Knit These Things

With one exception, we have not knit any of these projects yet ourselves. (The exception: I succumbed to the socks. Maybe a couple of pairs. It was just so fun to knit them up, so quick and satisfying, and then: socks existed. It never gets old.) But basically, the idea was that Kay and I would exercise a little self-control, so that we could knit them together with readers. So, now we’re sitting here with our kits ready, dying to cast on. It’s going to be fun, and we’re going to have some new winter knits before winter is done.

We’ll be writing more about these yarns and projects in the days to come, but for the moment, we’ll leave you with one thought:

We have been curious about these particular yarns for a while—they’ve long been on our wish list. If you’re new to these yarns, too, we hope you’ll join us as we play with them. There’s a bunch of Field Guide fun coming up in The Lounge.

A Bit of Background

Our aim with Field Guide No. 2: Fair Isle is to provide a mix of patterns that make it possible to play with stranded colorwork at whatever level you’d like to try.

Easy. Easier. Easiest.

Working with our Creative Director Melanie Falick gave us the chance to create some pretty stunning Pinterest idea boards. What surprised us was the way that certain motifs and colorways and shapes kept catching our eye.

Through great good luck, we worked with three designers whose designs we have admired for years.

Véronik Avery.

Ann Budd.

Michèle Rose Orne.

Their ideas surpassed everything we had hoped for. The four patterns in Field Guide No. 2 are as elegant in construction as any we have offered, thanks to the talent of these designers. These are juicy, delicious, addicting patterns. They are also just plain fun.
