I had a great and by great I mean crazy time doing the narration under the guidance of The Rockethouse, a production company in Scotland run by dear pals Matt Thompson and Yolanda Pupo-Thompson. I can honestly say that I have never before taken direction via Skype for an audiobook narration. Highly recommended! You feel like you’re on Apollo 13! High stakes!
Anyway, I hope you all will enjoy this. The best way to listen to Bowling Avenue is to get a giant knitting project going, say Kay’s blanket pattern, A Light in the Window, and dive in.

Just read your previous post and could not agree more! From the perspective of age 66, let me tell you that honesty and niceness CAN go hand in hand. Just takes some wit, and you have enough of that to spare! Recently I watched an “Actors Studio” interview with Ricky Gervaise (sp?). When asked what he learned from his parents, he said they taught him that “the truth does not hurt.” YES, I thought. It’s true, true, true.

As my mother hit her 70’s, if she didn’t like something we said or did, she’d say our name and make sure Dad couldn’t see as she’d flip us off! I’m afraid the “frankness” is genetic!
(I’m 59, just short of 60 and you know age doesn’t matter any more when you getting excited about where you can shop or eat for a “senior discount”!)

All Right! I have realized here lately that I’m still a big time reader… but now most of my books are audiobooks. I listen when I drive, when I sew and when I knit. So I have read (and loved) your book but I am going to love it while knitting this time around!

Dear Ann,
I was one of the ones fortunate enough to be gifted with a freeola e-copy of Bowling Avenue before it was available in print last year. And I am the one who misread the title and thought it was Bowling Alley instead of Avenue and couldn’t figure out how come no one in the story seemed to set foot in a bowling alley. I’m still laughing over that one… And I am the one who stayed up ’til the wee hours of the morning on a work day to read.
I loved the book when I read it and as I frequently do, I re-read the books I love, often many times. And so it came to pass a couple of weeks ago that it was time for me to re-read Bowling Avenue. I am a firm believer in honouring artists for their work, so I set about to order a hard copy.
And then, something made me think about audio books of which I am a huge fan – they allow me to knit, sew and do all kinds of cool stuff and still be entertained. I can rewind and listen to a chapter or a paragraph over and over again. Love doing this when something really tickles my funny bone. And so on an off chance, I typed in the title on my Audible.com account and lo and behold there it was.
The really big bonus was that you, Ann, was the narrator. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. How cool is that, to be read to by the very one who penned all the words to begin with.
Loved the story just as much the second time around. Now I have Bowling Avenue in two different formats. This will not be the last time, I venture into the land of the South as the characters in your story slowly reveal themselves to others and to themselves as well.

Oh my, I love your handknit recording studio! All that wool must have added to the warm atmosphere and low-echo of the sound of your voice. Thanks for the sample–it sounds wonderful.
Just a note to let you know how much I enjoy Bowling Avenue. I love slipping into the world you created. I have it downloaded on my iphone and have read it twice already. I read while walking the dog! I hope this will not be your last book of fiction…
